I just bought a used 2004 with 950 mile on it. It appears that none of the recalls or service b's were performed on it. Anyone have suggestions on how to get the dealer to adderss all of the items.

Mazda has a maintenance database, by VIN, that shows all outstanding recalls and campaigns for your car. I believe there have been four recalls and at lease one PCM update campaign for 2004 RX-8s. You dealership is obligated to perform these fixes ASAP, unless they have already been done. They are correct that there are a number of problems covered by Technical Service Bulletins (see http://www.finishlineperformance.com/rx8/bulletins_index.html) and that you must experience the problem before you get the fix. That is not as unreasonable as it sounds because it is unlikely that you will need more than 10%-20% of all these fixes. The only big issue, not in this list is condensation inside the front or back light fixtures, which routinely requires replacement of the fixture. Happy driving! Are you sure they meant the recalls intead of T.S.B.s? There are many stories of good and bad dealers here. If one service center will not do the work for you I suggest take it to another. |
