Hi,
How's everyone's fuel economy going?
This is my first rotary. Since I've only ever driven sub 2 litre, 4 cylinder engines before the RX-8, the first tank of fuel was a bit of eye opener. I got around 16litres/100km. I was featuring the accelerator all the time and kept the speed fairly moderate. I assume after the engine has loosened up a little, the fuel usage should drop a bit.
I had the climate control on for around half the time I was driving it. Would turning the a/c off help the fuel usage?

Smooth driving changing gears properly and at the right rpm and using 5th and 6th gears ,turning of your air conditioner will certainly help ,the cars are running a bit rich at the moment apparently this helps when running in a new engine ,i have managed 14 litres per 100 km ,which is reasonable driving truh the gears at above average speed .

I just noticed the spelling mistake in the title. Sorry.

I've been watching it too... and seeing things looking better...
I've now done about 1,000k's and am booked in on Friday for the first service...
First tank I got around 14.7 l/100km, this was a lot of peak hour traffic and 1 trip to the central coast by freeway.
Second tank got around 13.5 l/100km, this was around the city and again freeway to the central coast.
Got back today from the Hunter Valley (hey I'm having FUN...) and have now been using 6th instead of 5th on the freeway and look like I'm doing a lot better than the previous figures I'd guess around 12.
So, what I'm seeing is that the fuel usage really varies with the way you drive... but I'm also seeing it improving...maybe I'm getting the hang of the car...
By the way - not all the 1000 was me, my wife (who is also in love with the car) has done about 1/3'rd.

My old 12A did around 12k/L 13 B a little worse
Funny enough installing a 12A turbo on premium unleaded did around 10k/L (this in on highway, at 15psi boost another story!)
I know everyone is using premimum?? but very important in a rotary.
So far with the new nenesis, unfortunately too busy having fun to 6k, will post when I break in (post 1000) and then do some serious thrashing vs cruising tests.

i got about 14L/100km on my first fill. very gentle driving.
the car corners literally on rail compared to my old mx-5!!!
Got mine today, the 350km drive from Albury to Canberra was great, but keeping the engine speed constantly changing is a pain in the ass. Anywho, good news, economy on this trip was a smidge over 10L/100Km, so driving it sensibly on the freeway can yield good results.
