I'm looking to trade in my 2000 SVT Lightning for a new 6spd RX-8 with the sport package. I read the recent posts about 3-4 new owners dynoing their cars at 174-184 RWHP and coming up about 20-25 HP short at the wheels.
So I tried e-mailing Mazda about 2 days ago and got no response. This afternoon I called their customer service center. The rep I spoke to hadn't heard about the problem and said you shouldn't believe what people say online. I told her that a well known magazine found the same problem with a pre-production model, and that members of this forum were scanning their dyno grpahs and posting them on-line. There was no deceit involved.
All she did was take my info down, and will be mailing me out the latest Zoom-Zoom magazine with some stickers??!
As if 'stickers' are going to make the problem go away!
The next company I contact will be Sport Compact Car to see if they've tested a production model yet. If they have, they will probably raise a stink about it.
I was going to order my RX-8 in the coming weeks, but I'm glad I waited. I will wait to see how Mazda handles this whole situation. If I don't like what I see, I'll get my 2nd choice: a Lancer Evo VIII.
