Called Mazda

I'm looking to trade in my 2000 SVT Lightning for a new 6spd RX-8 with the sport package. I read the recent posts about 3-4 new owners dynoing their cars at 174-184 RWHP and coming up about 20-25 HP short at the wheels.

So I tried e-mailing Mazda about 2 days ago and got no response. This afternoon I called their customer service center. The rep I spoke to hadn't heard about the problem and said you shouldn't believe what people say online. I told her that a well known magazine found the same problem with a pre-production model, and that members of this forum were scanning their dyno grpahs and posting them on-line. There was no deceit involved.

All she did was take my info down, and will be mailing me out the latest Zoom-Zoom magazine with some stickers??!

As if 'stickers' are going to make the problem go away!

The next company I contact will be Sport Compact Car to see if they've tested a production model yet. If they have, they will probably raise a stink about it.

I was going to order my RX-8 in the coming weeks, but I'm glad I waited. I will wait to see how Mazda handles this whole situation. If I don't like what I see, I'll get my 2nd choice: a Lancer Evo VIII.

I called Mazda too and the rep hadn't heard of the issue but was very concerned (she knew of rx8forum which helps). I told her which area on the forum to go to and she said she will get people to check into it immediately. I started by saying I was a preorder since Jan and personally didn't need any more power but we should get what is advertised, and that the damage to Mazda's reputation on the web could be really bad if someone didn't address it soon. I didn't get any stickers or magazines though...

It's all about the stickers people!!! :D
I'm glad we're getting some attention from some reps.. Can't wait to see how this plays out.

I didn't ever see a dyno chart scanned, plus 600 miles isn't what i would consider enough time the cars given to R&T and C&D both had over 1500k on them.

Go to Tech Garage and look for 'Dyno Result w hard data' thread. Compaddict included a graph and all test conditions - his car has 2215 miles. He even included a '94 RX-7 dyno (same day test) which shows 208hp (as expected) and the RX-8 at 178hp.

MY car has the real ZOOM-ZOOM stickers courtsey of a Mazda rep at Rev-It-Up AND it definitely goes like STINK!

It must add AT LEAST 50HP, cause after the stickers, my car is closer in acceleration to the EVO than ever!

Only trouble is I can't hear any buzzer and when I look down there is some stinky little light somewhere that goes red as the tach says 9000+, but it's awful easy to miss and there's nothing to stop this thing. :D  :D

Called Sport Car Compacts Editor "on the behalf of Rx8forum.com". He expresses great concern about the dyno numbers and owners of the cars, and said since they sent back the last car they’ve been waiting for a new one. I did a search on Yahoo "rx8 dyno" its blowing up.
