Those closely spaced pedals that allow for such great Heel & Toeing also allow you to accidently have a foot on the gas whilst starting the car. Oops. A quick zing to 7k with no oil in the system probably didn't do my engine any favors. Now I know to check my feet.

Now, if your left foot is so large that it presses the clutch, brake and gas, then you have bigger problems than engine wear.

I can't say much I did the same thing once. The engine management computer made the throttle jump a few times I guess to make sure it had control. It was weird, but I do pay more attention to my feet when I'm starting as well.

The more I think about it i don't think I had any real pressure on the gas when I started. That is I was barely touching the peddle mayby had it down 1% or less. I wonder if the computer reacts to displacement of the throttle on startup. I don't know I am just rambling but I'm not going to test and find out.

rlfletch how much pressure did you have on the gas when you did it?

I had my foot, mostly, on the brake, just the side of it brushed the gas. I removed it quickly, needless to say.

So in both cases you were barely putting any pressure on the throttle but the rpms shot up to 7K? Is anyone else willing to try this to confirm? :)

Ummm...I haven't had that displeasure...however I do notice that when I first start the car cold the revs sit around 2k go up and down a bit then hover around 1.5k until finally settling at around 900 RPM idle (sometimes 30 seconds or more after starting - I typically start driving before it settles there).

Anyway, I would guess that adding just a touch of throttle at this point would make it a lot easier to rocket it to 7k since it is already idling high...maybe that's why it was so simple to do? Or maybe my car is acting funny?

You should need quite a bit of pedal travel to make the engine shoot to 7K rpm imo. If that happens with only a little pressure on the gas pedal, that's weird.

he had the clutch out to start the car of course; go figure... just hope it didnt hurt your baby

use the e-brake instead?

when i test drove the 8, i've notice the gas pedal to be fairly stiff

you must have big shoes or lead foot? or need to check the gas cable?
