There's hope yet in sight.
The story so far: Last week I called Mazda's 800 number and was told that my car had been released to the shipping company and had an ETA of Monday. Monday came and went. On Tuesday, I called them again and was told the same story and assured it would be here later that day or Wednesday at the latest. You guessed it: nada.
So today I called them again.
This time Igot a very nice gentleman by the name of Mike on the line. His first question, as usual, was "how can I help you," to which my reply was "well, I hope you can help me find my RX-8." After I explained the situation to him, he checked his records and confirmed that it was now three days overdue and asked if he could call me back because the lady he needed to escalate to was at lunch.
This was a breath of fresh air - someone at the "help desk" who genuinely seemed to want to help! I gave him my number, and he said he'd call back in about half an hour.
That half hour turned into about two hours, but it was worth the wait. Mike eventually called back to tell me that his enquiries had elicited an email from someone in the distribution department stating that my car would not be here today, but will be arriving on the first truck tomorrow morning. Mike explained that he's only working a half day tomomorrow, but gave me the the direct extension of one of his colleagues who he had brought up to speed, and told me to call her directly if it doesn't arrive by lunchtime tomorrow. I thanked him for his tenacity and went back to work.
Then about an hour later I got a phone call from Budaman, who had just received a call from the Gulf Region distribution manager assuring him that my car will be there first thing tomorrow! Whatever strings Mike pulled, they obviously lead to the right people.
So, I'm finally feeling confident that I'll be driving my new Blue Toy this weekend. Stay tuned for the next exciting episode.
