View Full Version : Mazda Canada--Clueless About Recalls
samyv2 08-31-2005, 12:17 PM Hey Gang!!
I just got off the phone with Mark from Mazda Canada.
First I faxed him the latest recall procedures from the web. He tells me they are USA and don't apply here.
I pointed out that the vin range covered my car. He didn't have an answer. That's cool.
So then I get him to long into Transport Canada to see the recalls. He says it may not cover my vin#. I point back to the recall procedures and my vin range. All he can say is if it happens they will notify me.
Now I know better then to worry about it. However has anyone else in Canada got this same run around answer? You would think I company of that size would have there stuff together.
MrJynx 08-31-2005, 12:34 PM i have.. they blamed it on politics. we'll get the recall . . . eventually. I didn't understand either how they can be so unorganized. In my company if we were like that we'd be shot
MrJynx
samyv2 08-31-2005, 12:53 PM I agree. There seems to be a real lack of leadership and organization with some companies.
dannobre 08-31-2005, 01:12 PM Got the same answers a couple of weeks ago when I phoned them. Customer service is useless...they just parrot the info they are given. Most of them don't seem to know the difference between a piston and a rotor. According to tech the recalls are in the works.....we have to wait for the letters to be sent out....should be going out today :D

Yeah, same problem here.
Shamblerock 08-31-2005, 01:35 PM These dealerships are for the f--king birds. They have no clue what they are doing . If I were Mazda, I would launch an investigation in each dealership with a bad rap, being most of them. Very lazy, uninformed, no enthusiasm, very defensive at all times.
dannobre 08-31-2005, 02:14 PM It's not the dealerships...most of this is Mazda Canada.........
I have a good relationship with the dealer I go to...and he can't do anything until Maz Can gives them the info. They have to wait for the WDS updates till Mazda Canada releases them as well...way behind US....

they also have to wait for the parts to be available. The US had to wait too.....now they have taken up all the available stock and we have to wait longer.
two rotors 08-31-2005, 06:40 PM The information regarding the recall has been on the Mazda Dealers web site for ~3 weeks, parts have been available in Canada for at least the same length ot time--we have 8 pads at our dealership.
I think the dealers are waiting for Mazda Canada to issue the recall letters to owners.WITHOUT THIS THE DEALER HAS NO WAY TO GET PAID.I have checked my own VIN on the Mazda Canada dealers network and the recall is not yet shown against my specific VIN.(I assume this will happen when the letters are issued.)
MyRxBad 09-01-2005, 01:19 PM Two rotors: well put.
Everyone else: sit back and relax. Logistics on parts are not as fast as the internet is! My dealer's service manager has known about this since I have (weeks ago) and is just waiting on the parts and the go ahead from the people that are going to pay for it (Mazda Canada).
Put it this way. If you were the dealer and had the parts sitting on the shelf, not able to get paid without the "official recall letters" sent out. Then what would you do? (read as from a business point of view)

RXBad, who's side are you on?
Excuses, Excuses. No more relaxing. We want things fix now, we want more power, Forced induction, more handling, better stereos and we want them all for free from Mazda Canada, like yesterday. They should even throw in a free nav system as a demonstration of their gratitude for our patience. ;)
OK, Just kidding. I'm not going anywehere so I'll wait a little longer. :p
Are any of you guys going to D & B tonight? I'll be struggling to make it this evening as things are panning out as I write this e-mail.

Here's a thought.. Instead of sending the letter to the client directly from Mazda Canada, why don't they send the letters to the dealership! if they service the vehicle prior to the letter arriving all they need to do is not send the letter to that person..
But I can understand the difficulty coordinating this, how many 8's were sold in Canada again? hell even futureshop tracks their clients better
I'm not blaming the dealers, I understand it's not their fault at all.. I blame Mazda corp.. so damn unorganized.

RXzooomer8 09-02-2005, 01:51 PM Hi
In presenting my dealer with a copy of the US recall I was informed that the parts are first given to the largest markets, which the US qualifies, once this has been accomplished then the smaller markets are serviced.
They are all aware of the problem and will notify the Vin # owners when they have the parts available at the dealer level. Otherwise there would be no co-ordination and you would have to wait till they ordered the parts after the inspection had been done to verify the problem existed in your car.
Makes sense but what happens if there is a breakdown of the parts notified prior to the recall and they do more damage to other parts????
Best regards
vogle 09-07-2005, 08:41 AM like mine, which was on the boat when the recall was issued, and delivered to me the day this recall showed up on the transport canada site - why not do an inspection and flash? No parts required!!
no, even this much coordination is too much for MC. Nope, lets keep shipping cars out the door that need recall work, even though we CAN fix them first.
Yeesh.
f1michel 09-07-2005, 01:51 PM ok... i've been away from the site for a while... what recall exactly are we talking about here?
samyv2 09-08-2005, 09:54 AM The balljoint recall and the termal gas tag recall. You can find them both in the tech section nuber bulletins
rotten42 09-08-2005, 12:07 PM Hey, I'm getting the Gas tank recall work done next week. I had my car in yesterday for a faulty air-bag sensor. When I picked up the car the service tech told me that the parts have been ordered for the gas tank recall and that they would call me next week when they are in to schedule a day for me to bring the car in. I was told this will be the first one done @ Sunridge Mazda. I still haven’t received any letter from Mazda.
daddyg 09-08-2005, 12:20 PM I just received a Special Service Bulletin #61 from Mazda as well, and when I called my dealer in Toronto, they were also not informed.

MTLbroker 09-08-2005, 12:45 PM The only thing I've ever received from Mazda is a customer satisfaction survey. Nothing about recalls, service bulletins, etc.
I'm just going to drive the hell out of the car until it blows up......
I'm fed up of going in to service to be confronted by a service manager with a blank look on his face and glazed eyes when I ask about rx8 issues.

Mazda is the same as other manufacturers. They have some good dealers who are informed and good to deal with...and then you have the complete idiots that don't deserve to be in business.

The longer you wait the newer the parts on your car will be later on ;)
get more use out of those parts & then go get some new ones! :D
samyv2 09-28-2005, 12:30 PM Hey Gang,
Just wanted to let everyone know that I finally received my letters about the latest recalls. I have an appointment on Friday with Avante Mazda to get them fixxed.
herbert 09-28-2005, 12:36 PM I got only the one letter and just this week (the fuel tank recall). I haven't received the other yet. I'm assuming it'll be a matter of days.
It's funny 'cause I called to book 24K servicing at Scarboro and asked if they could do the recalls at the same time even though I didn't have the letters. They said they can do the fuel tank recall but don't have the parts for the other one. Then my letter arrives later that day.
jowettw 09-28-2005, 12:47 PM did anyone get a letter for the control arm recall?
Moyenne 09-28-2005, 02:31 PM Received notice in mail Tuesday Sept 27 - appointment made at Avante - work to be done Friday Oct 07. No problems no sweat.
Samyv 09-28-2005, 03:22 PM I got both letters Yestereday. My control arm letter states the problem is for built dates between April 2003 and July 2004. So maybe it doesn't cover your car
04RX8chk 09-29-2005, 06:59 AM I only got the fuel tank recall letter (yesterday). I already had the work done when my car was in being repaired after the dealer damaged it during a service. It was the least could do, considering they didn't tell me about the damage when I picked it up (Bank Street Mazda in Ottawa). I hope my car doesn't require the other recall - I'm a bit tired of taking it to the dealer for all these repairs. :(

I just got my fuel tank recall letter yesterday....made an appointment at Dave Wood in Newmarket.
I asked about the other recall (control arm I think) and they checked my VIN and said I wasn't affected. The dealer said very few cars in Canada had the other recall.

Strange...on here (http://www.finishlineperformance.com/rx8/docs/pdf/RepairProceduresRecallBJ.pdf) it says build dates of April - December of 2003.
hobbes 09-29-2005, 06:38 PM Got my letter and will be there (Avante) this coming Monday in the morning.

BlueFrenzy 09-29-2005, 09:07 PM Ha ha ... I too just got my fuel tank recall letter but didn't get the control arm one. I'm in the build date range ... hmm. Hopefully Chad's dealer is correct in saying that very few are affected by this.

I just got both letters today...No big deal... :D
MyRxBad 09-30-2005, 11:07 AM Got mine a couple days ago... Debating on getting it done now, or after winter storage.
buddman 09-30-2005, 11:52 AM Got letter yesterday.. and an appt. Tuesday.
Road Runner 09-30-2005, 04:12 PM Had the gas tank recall done at North Hill Mazda on Wednesday, while in for 20,000km service. Got home that night and recall letter was in the mailbox. While at the dealership I also asked about the control arm recall. They checked my VIN in the computer and mine is not in the recall series. Btw, with the reflash that comes with the gas tank recall, the car feels a little peppier. No flat spot at 6,000 to 6,500 rpm.
My RX8 10-01-2005, 09:35 AM I can go into the Mazda Canada system with ur VIN and check the available recalls on ur car along with the procedure printed in hard copy... let me know if you guys need help!
Fritz the Cat 10-01-2005, 12:05 PM Got my letter yesterday, but I'll wait until my next oil change to get the work done. I don't idle my car at high RPMs, so I'm in no hurry.
RX4life 10-01-2005, 07:10 PM I can go into the Mazda Canada system with ur VIN and check the available recalls on ur car along with the procedure printed in hard copy... let me know if you guys need help!
cant find this feature on their website...i even registered my car thinking it will allow me to enter my vin and update me on recalls... but ... no.
:(
TY_888 10-03-2005, 10:19 AM Any one have their recall done in Montreal West Island dealer, 2-20 at source or ile-perrot.
I went to ile-perrot in the past for flash upgrade. tire /oil changes and service is ok. Any one have experience with the Service dept at sources? Are they good? I passed by Sources parking lot, I am sure if I leave the car there, I will have a lot door dings and scratches. That dealership is so small.
Other reason is I do not want to be the first one for the recall, hope they already know what they are doing for the recall.
T.
ranny3 10-03-2005, 12:30 PM I had the recall stuff done at 2-20 on Sources. Seemed ok. The only thing was I complained about squealing brakes and they turned the disc and cleaned the pads or something, but since then I've been hearing grinding noises when I brake.
I went back, also printed TSB about changing the pads... we'll see. I didnt hear good things about 2-20, apparently Madza Laval is good. I'll probably go there afterwards for warranty stuff.
My RX8 10-04-2005, 08:06 AM cant find this feature on their website...i even registered my car thinking it will allow me to enter my vin and update me on recalls... but ... no.

I work for Mazda, that's why I can go into the Mazda central system and pull it off for ya if U need!!
TY_888 10-04-2005, 10:02 AM Someone posted an account and psw for US mazda site for all the info on flash version, technical manual etc. Do a search, you may still able to locate the info. I forgot to write it down. It has been over a year since I access the site.
MTLbroker 10-04-2005, 02:01 PM Finally got the letter. Brought the car in for the heat shield.
They will also reflash to latest pcm.
They also ordered a/c part as per service bulletin. Game me an appointment for installation.
When I bring in car for a/c, will complain about squealing brakes..... Try to get a new set of pads.
MTLbroker 10-05-2005, 09:44 AM Followup to my last post, driving around with the newest flash, feels exactly the same as the old flash. Some people have posted about improved perfromance? If the car is better, I can't feel it. Maybe it takes more time......
