View Full Version : Official Cayman pics
BlueEyes 05-22-2005, 08:06 PM The search function couldn't find the old thread I made about the Cayman, despite knowing the title of it. I think it's broken :(
Anyways, here are some "official" shots of the upcoming cayman, looks awesome!!
I want to see it in black with some anthracite wheels.

Lock & Load 05-22-2005, 08:33 PM As soon as they bring out this beauty with DSG Duel sequential gearbox in 2008 i think i will be a contender for one :D
Dont panic i will still be keeping the RX8 sharing it with my eldest son :p
cheers

It's a porsche. But it looks better than most porsche's IMO.
TheColonel 05-22-2005, 09:26 PM I've never been a porsche fan, but I'd say that's kinda hot. Reminds me of the Elise.

true
one of the best porsches i've seen in a long time
ZoomZoomH 05-22-2005, 09:45 PM I'd hit it
s13lover 05-22-2005, 09:55 PM I'd hit it
:D
himitsu 05-23-2005, 12:13 AM The rear hatch door shape reminds me of the old Beetle...
It looks like a TT and a 911 mated, I can't decide if that's a good thing or not looks wise but I'm sure it'll be fun to drive.
DreRX8 05-23-2005, 08:29 AM I like it. I'm a Porsche fan anyway.
BlueEyes 05-23-2005, 11:32 AM Oh man, I had a dream about this car last night. I was driving a race prepped version at Road America, the whole field was 360 NGT's and my car was painted like speed racers. I woke up before I finished, but I wasn't winning
hotpot 05-23-2005, 11:56 AM The side profile looks very nice indeed.
Wasn't this car supposed to be the coupé version of the boxster? It looks quite a bit bigger.

BlueEyes 05-23-2005, 12:21 PM My first mod would be to get rid of those fog lights
http://www.rx8club.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=51027&stc=1
RX-Hachi 05-23-2005, 02:14 PM The fog lights remind me of the "Underground" MS RX-8 that was featured in R&T's SPEED magazine. And those wheels in the first group of pics also looks RX-8-esque.
I think the side vents could use some cleaning up as well. I also was hoping it would have some rear vents like the 911, the back looks a bit plain. The profile reminds me of the old Dino Ferrari.
Prices estimates for this car seem to be all over the map. R&T states it should be close to the Boxster, C&D says over $70K (they're wrong), most other sources indicate around $60K, slotted between the Boxster and 911. If it's close in price to the Boxster, I might consider one, otherwise I'd opt for a 911.
dwill9578 05-23-2005, 02:36 PM Great looking car, sure it will do very well.
MadRonin 05-23-2005, 04:07 PM Holy shit! Now that's a Porsche I actually like.
Ellar 05-25-2005, 05:48 PM You know one reason I would never buy it? I'm sure you can't change the plugs without putting it up on a lift. Same with the Boxter. Part of building a proper sportscar is giving the owner a fighting chance of working on it themselves. Porsche never got this. Check out what it takes to do the clutch in a 924/944.
BlueEyes 05-25-2005, 07:14 PM I would buy it, then buy a hoist.

The porsche website said $58 or something like that...it's down now but there's a link in another thread.

Plugs need to be changed only once every 60,000 miles. Heck, even the oil only needs to be changed every 20,000 miles.
Ellar 05-29-2005, 11:24 AM That's still not cool. Also, I wonder where the air filter is and how you check the oil. You still need to check it more often than you need to change it.
Some car companies like to stretch that oil change figure out because they know it'll be well out of warranty when it catches up to you. Even if the oil still has the same lubricating qualities after 5000 miles (hasn't been broken down by dillution with raw fuel, heat, etc.), it's loaded up with by-products of combustion that can start eating away at stuff.
Lock & Load 05-29-2005, 06:41 PM The only reason that some people would not buy it would be because they cant afford it . :p
cheers

Ellar 05-29-2005, 08:32 PM Chevy better halt Vette production. Have you told them?
BlueEyes 05-29-2005, 08:36 PM I'd take this over a base vette, a Z06 no, but that's going to be more $$
PetersonPeleRx8 05-29-2005, 10:16 PM The interior shots that BlueEyes put up are so sick. Wonder what the performance #'s will be????
Lock & Load 05-29-2005, 10:17 PM 217kw.
cheers

BlueEyes 05-29-2005, 10:36 PM Rumored to do 0-60 in about 5 seconds and run the ring in 8:11 faster than the 997. I am waiting to see the slalom speeds, that is what I think will be most impressive about this car, should handle like an absolute dream.
CRX Millennium 05-30-2005, 02:00 PM Came across this site, which features additional photos of Cayman S in the snow! Must be running on winter tires with it being RWD instead of AWD on Carrera 4. Without further ado, check out http://www.germancarfans.com/photos.cfm/PhotoID/3050530.001/porsche/1.html. Make sure you got your pop-up blocker ready.
As for the lapping capacity of the Cayman S, the 8:11 time claim was made by Porsche. The article found here http://www.autoweek.com/news.cms?newsId=102455 mentioned of it being 4 seconds faster than 911 Carrera and 7 seconds faster than Boxster S.
Overall it's very nice, but the ugly "fish gill" side vents and the overly busy fog lights are like blemishes on an otherwise clean shape.
I'm liking this car more and more...
The shifter looks really tall though... :(

Agreed but not only are the "fish gills" ugly but if they are going to be the same as on the Boxter s THEY ARE MADE OF A CHEAP LOOKING PLASTIC
Here in Australia the Boxter s is $135.000 + on roads the Cayman S will be around $155.00 +on roads for that sort of money we should get Aluminium gills or better still carbon fibre .
cheers

BlueEyes 05-30-2005, 06:35 PM The strakes on an SL are plastic too, it happens and it's easily fixed. Personally, I would rather no vents, just openings.

Excatly my point the average car buyer is a smuck for accepting cheap finishes even on expensive cars its only recently that porsche gave buyers a lockable globe box , after it recieved many complaints .
