I have a question regarding what people have read/seen/heard about the electrical system in the RX8. I myself, as well as a friend both like the RX8 a lot, but when she mentioned it to her father, he freaked out about some rumor he'd heard about the electrical systems being terrible and causing fires.
So what's the truth? Is the RX8 plagued with electrical issues, including some of which cause fires?

Japanese cars rarely have electrical problems. European is the exact opposite, they're just full of elec. problems.
for example: early Mini Cooper's would over heat b/c the power steering pump fan was part of the radiator fan's circuit. the power steering pump fan was located i directly underneath the car without at shield to cover it from road debris

I certainly don't remember any posts on this forum reporting an electrical fire in any 8. And considering all the minor problems that get reported, you'd have to think something as major as an electrical fire would get posted. Sounds like an urban legend to me. But I did hear they're prone to throwing a rod, though!

Did her dad read that on a 350Z forum?

Don't know where her dad heard the info. I trust him for the most part, so this threw me for a loop when she told me what he had said. Then again, she's 23 years old, and has had a few tickets (for really excessive speed). Maybe he's just trying to steer her away from a fast car.
It wasn't mechanical problems or similar, but as I think about it now, he seems to have convinced her not to buy a Dodge *cough*neon*cough* SRT4 as well.
she likes the Scion TC, and he's not said anything about that. Don't know if he's seen it's performance numbers yet.
Anyhow, for myself, I'm interested in the RX8, so the electrical thing is important.
I apprecieate the info. If anyone else has related info, I'd love to hear it.

Ford is having a problem with this. There was a report on the news here in Houston a few nights ago about a ford that burned up 4 hours after being parked.

Being on this forum for a while, the only things electrical I can conjure up are:
A couple of electric windows not going back up, and
A few on again off again electric power steering pumps acting up,
almost forgot the infamous resistor that could be used to cycle the air conditioner better.
That's all I can recall -- no major electrical problems, at least with any regularity.
Speaking of that -- gotta go now......
