First time looking at tires/wheels, help please!

Alright, well, I'm starting to do research on tires/wheels and I was trying to figure out what all these numbers mean and how to figure out which one will best fit my needs.

First and foremost this is the first time I have ever looked/upgraded tires/wheels so please bare with me since I don't know the basics. If someone could explain all the numbers and information that I need. Basically, all I know is the size of the wheel, 18" 19" 20" etc etc. What is does off set, staggered, and rest of the numbers mean and what should I be looking for in matching wheels/tires?

What I am looking to do is A) is there a way to make it so that the wheel well is "covering" some of the tire? Not a lot, but just a little. Would I have to go 20's or what would I need to pull off that appearance. At this time I have Tein S-tech springs on stock wheels/tires.

At this time, I'm looking at 19" Foose Speedster wheels. I really like the design of these, I LOVE the 5 spoke wheels and the design is very elegant and simple, yet efficient.

Also, I have read about rolling the fenders? and rubbing? What's that? and how would I prevent that?

Anyways, I know it might be a lot to explain to me, but if you could help out, I'd really appreciate it.

I would start by reading the Tech articles on Tire Rack. It should answer most of your questions.

Im not sure what you mean by a rim that is "covering" the tire, maybe someone else will jump in.

Rolling the fenders is just what is sounds like. Rolling the lip of the fender in order to provider additional clearance for the rim/tire.

Rubbing is what can happen if you run to big a rim and/or tire and/or the wrong offset of rim. (refer to link for offset definition). The tire will "rub" against something inside the wheel well. It may be the brake caliper, fender (rolling is then required), shock/struts, etc..

Im by no means an expert. Hopefully someone will jump in the correct anything I erred on, or to add information.

I think he means the space between the tire and the fender, so that when you look at the tire from the exterior the gap is smaller. I think the third number of the tire sequence (but don't quote me on that) refers to the height of the rubber on the tire. I think you'd may want a low-profile tire so the amount of rubber is smaller, or you can lower your car a little. Not sure though how that would come into play with your Tien springs.
