Film on or under stock clear out headlights

I have noticed that my 04 8 with the stock clear out headlights has a slight film either on the outside or the inside of the headlight. It really shows at night with the headlights on.

I have heard that I should use "used motor oil" and buff out the haze, but I have not tried that, just doesn't make sense.

Anyone had or know anything about the haze on the headlights? Anyone know how to get them totally clear again?

Thanks

For me the film was on the inside and both assy's were replaced under warranty. The replacements are filming also but not nearly as bad.

Chris, I've read that you may actually have to polish your headlights like you do your paint. Let me see if I can find the article...

Yeah, here you go: http://properautocare.com/polplasheadl.html

Thanks guys for the help, I don't know why I did not think of just going to the dealership. They need to pay for something anyway cause they sure won't soon after I finally get the turbo! Thanks everyone!

I have the same problem but my dealership told me that the film is absolutely not inside the headlight and unless I brought him the car with actual water droplets inside he would not replace them.

DO NOT settle for this, my dealer called thier parts manager and he said that Mazda is investigating this problem and they are currently looking for another manufacturer for the lights. Go to another dealer or make your dealer call mazda I would fight this all the way. My dealers name is Cory Fairbanks Mazda in Longwood Florida if that helps.

Thanks for the info. I'm going in later this week for something else so I'll be sure to press the issue. I'll let you know what happens.

Well, I just got back from my dealer where I took my car for the brakes TSB, center console clasp, and the headlight film. They took care of the brakes, no questions asked. They ordered the console cover for me. And they realized that the headlight film was actually on the outside, so they cleaned, buffed, and waxed my headlights free of charge - they look spectacular now. The film is definitely gone, I'm not sure if I had the same problem as other people with the film (mine is a 9/03 build date). Couldn't be happier, this dealer has been taking great care of me every time (Pacifico Mazda in Philadelphia). Highly recommended.

I have this problem as well... my headlights always seem to look a bit fooged up. You might want to take a look here... https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-trouble-shooting-95/getting-new-05-headlights-installed-63482/

You will have to look carefully on your headlights to see whether or not it is on the inside or out. It is easy to tell if you look carefully enough. If it is on the inside, Mazda had better replace them both. They did mine without question.
