Just got my tanabe sustec strut tower bar and HKS racing suction...gonna fit them soon and post some more pics when done..

Yes Hymee... nojooc has the same set up and if you remember there is a nice box to sheild heat away from the CAI.

For what it is worth, you don't want to "shield heat away".

What you need to do is seal the air out, so engine bay air doesn't get in. Anything less is inferior to the factory CAI.

But why not shield heat away. You think the air from the intake should not be insulated from the outside?

thinking of that can we actively cold the air ... is the intake temp better if it is lower.

Yes, it sould be insulated. The heat shield won't be totally useless. But if it is metal, it will radiate the heat to the air anyway.

But insulation is not enough - it needs to be sealed so hot engine bay air cannot get in. The factory CAI does a very good job at that.

My intake temp with my custom intake mod is only 5deg above ambient. Yesterday driving from Canberra to Sydney, the intake temp was 38deg and the ambient temp was 34deg.

With the stock intake, I was typically seeing intake temps 10deg above ambient on average.

Well that is very good. I think (although did not log it myself). I do have an intake temp 10 deg above ambient. (22 and intake temp is 32).

Boyboydan has the similar set up (at least the same concept) as yours. But he has a typhoon K&N filter not stock.... hmmm

That is why I was disappointed not to see nojocc up in Sydney. I want to see how his HKS does. Where is the next HKS intake owner located??? (please show your hand) ;)

Another intake reading today. Intake temp 29, ambient temp 26. I have two 3 inch tubes directing air from next to the number plate -> directly into the stock airbox. VFAD completely removed. There is no chance of air being sucked from the engine bay. Best $30 I spent on the car.

Agreed, I think the work going to be done worth more than $30... :)
