Quality of the knob is great, comes with new leather boot, and adapter harness.
(No need for cutting wires)
But the wires that come down from the knob are very brittle.
After installation (should not have followed the instructions)
Poof! No more light!
Ok, new wires...
No luck. Turns out to be the circuit board, a small part with the # 151 was not
soldered well.
All works well now and it's a welcome addition to my mods....

Waiting for my ground kit now....

Just curious, how much did you pay for that lighted knob when your hand covers it up a great majority of the time while driving??

Actually way too much.
But I love looking at it when peek true the window when wandering in the garage....
That's worth it to me.

ya how do you get it apart? i have the same problem with mine. i read on here that that was the problem but i never knew how to fix it.

It's easy, but be very gentle...
Or you might damage it.

Get a new sharp hobby knife end stick it above, the clear part.
(Between rotary ring and clear cover)
Then pry up, making sure you do not damage the clear part,
(A white part will be underneath, remove that with the hobby knife to)
Then you will be able to access a screw, should be easy from there on....

Two questions really...

1) Where did you find this? I can't seem to locate a knob like this on the internet.. every one I've seen is the silly "Illuminated knob" type, with the entire top piece lighting up like an xmas bulb.. I love the look of just the shifting track lit.

2) How is the lighting quality? My preference would be for the light to be the same illumination and color as the radio and other dash elements (that subtle red look), but from your pictures it looks quite a bit brighter (though that could be the angle of the camera..) Does it look 'stock' or aftermarket?

Cool. How much and who sells them? Is there wiring already in the stick to easily connect the board to?

As for the color, it will match your radio, ext.
But be warned this thing is bright!
If needed you can make it les bright.

FYI the knob does not come cheap....

IMO it's WAY too expensive for what it is.

thanx modena, ill have to give it a try. if you guys are still wondering i got my knob awhile ago from www.trussvillemazda.com it was around $180-$190. its expensive but except for the wiring problem i think its worth it.

Before sticking the knife in there, maybe tape it off.
(The clear part) I didn’t & got lucky!

It shouldn't be a "great majority of the time" unless you're resting your hand on the shift knob which is BAD.

Just a few quick questions: how are the wires lead from the knob to the power source? I mean, do they exit the shift knob at the bottom and then they are just tucked underneath the shift boot?
It must be real fun to unscrew the knob and pay attention how the wires go in order not to pull on them... must first wind the wire around the shaft in the opposite direction or something?
Also, where to they connect to? Is there a socket next to the shofter already for this?

There's about 8 inches of wire from the knob to a connector.
I rewired mine with a softer, more bendable wire, 12 inches long.
The kit comes with a new leather boot that makes it easier to remove the knob.
Also a wiring harness is included that snaps into the ashtray lighter wire.

I ran the wire from the knob to the connector underneath the seat heater and nav
