took my 8 in this past friday and had the Evap Pump replaced <CEL indicated it wasn't working properly> and had the latest flash installed, i left the dealership appoximately 3:30 pm and headed out of town for the weekend, half way through my 1.5 hour drive the CEL returned... took it back in Monday and they said my gas cap wasn't sealing right... they ordered another one, supposed to be in tomorrow, we'll see what happens after that, anyone else had the same problem?

Gas cap not on properly and a MIL popping up?
Yeah, sure - dozens of people on this forum have had that problem.
The fix was usually tightening the gas cap properly.
You struck a dumb dealer, they should have tested the system before replacing the pump.

I had the same problem. They replaced the evap cansister and everything. I am still wondering if the bad "M" flash was causing this CEL to fire and thatI didn't have a evap problem in the first place.

No that wasn't the case, the gas cap was securely tightened, the CEL code indicated that the Evap valve was leaking, then after they replaced the Evap Valve the CEL came back on with a different code that indicated that the cap was leaking, they checked to make sure the cap was secured and it was, so the cap itself was not sealing properly when tightened, yes i give the benefit of the doubt that the cap not sealing right could have been the problem from the start but i think there are 2 different CEL codes that have played in this ordeal, but anyway im heading to the dealer in a few minutes to get the new cap and let them reset my CEL, then im going to drive it around awhile and see what happens, will post my results when i get back

there are 6 different evap cel codes

P0441 EVAP system incorrect purge flow ON 2 EVAP system ´ (See
DTC P0441 )
P0442 EVAP system leak detected (small leak) ON 2 EVAP system ´
(See DTC P0442 )
P0443 Purge solenoid valve circuit problem ON 2 CCM ´ (See DTC
P0443 )
P0446 EVAP system vent control circuit problem ON 2 EVAP system ´
(See DTC P0446 )
P0455 EVAP system leak detected (large leak) ON 2 EVAP system ´
(See DTC P0455 )
P0456 EVAP system leak detected (very small leak) ON 2 EVAP system
´ (See DTC P0456 )

do you have the paper showing the codes they found?

Yes, here is the code they found when they replaced the evap pump- P0442
and here is the code they found when they replaced the gas cap- P0456

Sorry to resurect a thread from the past but I figured it's better than opening a new thread and getting flamed.

So on my work order it states:

CEL on.
Caused by DTC CODE P0456 EVAP TEST 0.2 IN
RESET PERFORM DRIVE CYCLE FOR 5 MILES OK.

Okay so I kinda understand that the P0456 code might be related to a loose gas cap, but please explain to me how they reset the code? What is "reset perform drive cycle for 5 miles".

If I get the same code in the future what can I do to get the CEL off?

They clear the code and perform a drive cycle. This means driving the car then shutting it off and driving again. It usually takes two drive cycles for the code to return if it is not repaired. Unfortunatley you cannot clear the code without a scan tool.
