Angry Aftermarket rims void warranty?!

I went to my Mazda dealership, where i have a good friend that works there, and she told me that if I were to get aftermarket rims that it would void the warranty due to the fact that the TPMS is a safety feature. She said that if you take it to the dealer to have it serviced and they saw that you had aftermarkets on that they write it down to let the manufacturer know and they will void it. Anyone else heard this?

I had my 8 serviced the other day and the guy asked me if the TPMS worked with my aftermarket wheels. I said that I haven't had any problems, he didn't mention anything about it voiding the warranty. They were quick to jump on me about the K&N intake, but not a peep about wheels.

Again people, a manufacturer cant void warrantys due to part. A manufacturer can refuse warranty work if they can prove the aftermarket part caused the OEM part to fail.

So in this case if you had a seal go out Mazda cant void your warranty due to some rims.

You are talking about what they can legally do as opposed to what they actually do. My experience with Mazda while owning a FD for 8 years is that Mazda NA gives the dealers great leeway in determining whether warranties are voided, i.e. it is up to the dealer in question. If the dealer determines that a warranty claim will not be honored or your warranty is voided this is entered into their computer system and will show up at any other dealer you go to. If you want to dispute this claim, you will have to talk to the Mazda regional rep, although my experience with them (and from what others said on the old rx7 list) is that they are loath to reverse a dealer's decision. Whether this is legal or not is IRRELEVANT, it is what they do. To fight it you will have to get a lawyer...

For better or worse, that is the reality. Your best bet is to find a dealer who is reasonable about such things. It could be worse, I've heard some true horror stories about what Mitsubishi is doing with Evo owners.
