I took the VIN from the Houston Rev It Up thread and tried some insurance sites, but they didn't recognize the VIN! Anyway, I'm guessing these little buggers are going to be pretty easy on the insurance:

4-door
1.3L engine
driver/pass air bags
side air bags
ABS
passive alarm system

I was wondering about the same thing. Will they consider it a coupe or a sedan?

$300 that's CHEAP!!!!

Some of the guys on the European forum have been quoted

£ 1500 ($2400)

£450 excess ($720)

These guys have clean licences and over 25 years old!!!!

This was quoted by MAZDA themselves.

YOU LUCKY PEOPLE $300?????

I called Geico and got a qoute... $1750 every six months! So thats about $300 a month. With the $500 deductable, this was the cheapest they could go. I just got a speeding ticket though. Oh yeah, they consider it a 2 door coupe.

Geico's rates are always really high- have you tried any other places yet? They were probably basing it off the RX-7, like my insurance company tried to do. I told them no thanks, I'd try back when I had my VIN.

Really? Of all the places I tried, Geico was the best..

I dont want to post the numbers as they might get bombarded with requests and then wise up and change the numbers hehehe.. but the numbers I got did say 2004 Mazda RX-8.. and all I can say is that it was suprisingly looooooow.

RX-NUT,

You already let the cat out of the bag, you might as well give us the details :)

Also, if anyone else gets a quote can you give a bit more information about yourself, ie age, marrital status, points.

Danke, D-san

Did you get a quote online or in the mail? Because their online quotes don't have the RX-8 as a choice for 2004 Mazdas?

Ah, well, I guess it differs depending on where you live. My insurance company charges us less than half what Geico charged us for my husband alone.

RX-Nut
05-02-2003, 07:15 PM
well since the fire is started...., please dont go hounding geico about my rate.. it's the best I've seen out of most of the Hawaii agents.. and I would love to pay this much on a new car full coverage (naturally I'd want it lower, but hey this is pretty good).. I just hope they dont pull a fast one and jack it up..

Online quote after emailing them and asking about the RX-8 since it's not listed online..

2004 Mazda RX-8 = $513.80 - 6 month total premium

Just a few quick notes about GEICO:

1) They will not write you if you admit to owning a radar detector.

2) They make no secret of spending a fair amount of money annually to equip Police Departments with new laser speed equipment.

3) In states where detectors are illegal they also donate quite a few radar detector detectors.

Their stated objective is to insure only good drivers, thus they are pretty quick to dump policy holders who suffer an at-fault claim as well. (To be fair, so do most other insurers, but GEICO is blatant about their policy up-front.)

Just some things to consider...

RX-Nut

let me rephrase that then....

Amendment to statement posted by RX-Nut:

I wouldn't expect to pay more then $100 a month. Try third car, no claims, no tickets, married, been with State Farm since I was 18, in my 30's. I currently pay $55 a month for full coverage on a 2 year old Accord. Ha!

Have Erie Insurance for 20 years; currently pay 1500/yr for 3 vehicles; almost perfect driving record
HOWEVER, Erie says hp/weight ratio puts it in a Boxster catagory, regardless of all the safety features I pointed out from the 85 page Press Kit write-up. After re-looking, they held firm on 859/yr, for this car; OK for MD/DC area, i'd say. Will pull Collision, which is a rip-off for older cars anyhow.

It's funny, I got a rate of $1133/6months and I was very excited. Living in Jersey sucks!! I'm 27, no points, no accidents, highest tier for state farm, and I'm single. Oh well, I'm going to do some insurance shopping, but they'll drastically have to beat state farm for me to leave.

ERIK Wow they actually gave you a quote? Amazing!

I have to call Liberty Mutual and see if they will do the same... $1133/6 months seems pretty good, but I'm going to get this car under my parent's name so we'll see how I do on that. They are going to co-sign the lease for just that reason, so I can get it insured under their names.

I'm going to give State Farm a call as well though.

I hate Jersey too! :(

erik

State Farm is not writing any more insurance for New Jersey. My buddy has Liberty Mutual, and they have pretty good rates. I would just call a bunch of places and just see what they give you.

If it's of any benefit, I got a rebate on my insurance switching it from the 3-year old S2000 to the RX8 even though the value was 25% more! Admitedly it was a very small rebate but I'm half way through the policy for the year. For most people it'll work out great if they list it as 1.3L!

Check this out!

Called my insurance company to get a quote for the RX-8. I currently drive a 1994 Mazda 626 4 cylinder. I pay $1,400 per year.
He said for the same coverage I would pay $2,000 for the RX-8 (not accurate - need vin #). I asked for a quote for the 2003 Infiniti G35C - $1,400 per year. I would pay the same for my 1994 Mazda 626 with 120,000 miles, which is worth around $2,500 as I would for a new 2003 Infiniti G35C that's worth 30K?

RX-8 $1,525 per year!

Not bad - currently paying $1,400 per year for my 1994 Mazda 626 with 120,000 miles.

Don't understand why the G35 coupe is $100 less than the RX-8
when the G35 has more hp?

Our State Farm here said they couldnt get an accurate quote since the car was new. They didnt want to trun my business away with a false quote.. Strange if you ask me.. but I gave em the benefit of the doubt and promised I would check back with a VIN.

It would be the same if I got the RX-8 under my own name...

That's why I'm having my dad co-sign the lease so that I can get insurance under his name; I'll take the family car under my name.

Called State Farm today, they have the '04 RX-8 in thier system as a 4-door coupe. I'm a 33yo. male, married, and drive over 150 miles per week. They quoted $392/6mo.! Cheap! Asked if this was accurate, she said yes, the car is in thier system this is not an estimate. Cool, now I just need to worry about the mpg rumors! (14MPG, YUK!)

Acura RSX - $162
Hyundai Tiburon GT - $151
Toyota Celica GT - $151
Toyota Celica GT-S - $171
Nissan 350z - $169

I checked with my State Farm agent back in March, and I got a printout and quote of around 950 every six months. Not too bad, considering I'm 22 and male, but I dont have any tickets/accidents, and there's a discount or two on there for miscellaneous reasons.

But then again, I'll believe the quote when the bill comes in the mail, my brother was quoted around 1000 / six months when he got his GS400 two years ago, and they steadily increased it to the point where he's paying about 230 a month for full coverage with no tickets/accidents.

And for the real kick in the pants - for all us youngsters (<25); when my brother turns 25 in June, his insurance will drop to 125 a month.

State Farm told me they didn't need my VIN to give me a quote. Just to modify my policy. They had the RX-8 in their computer finally. They quoted me $520 / 6 months.

I'm paying $350 / 6 months now for a 93 Ford Mustang LX.

I live in Atlanta, 27 years young, 2 kidz, 1 wife (you get a discount if you have 3 or 4 wives) :D

I just got an online rate quote from State Farm. Here's my stats:

-Age 28
-Married
-No tickets/violations
-$200 comp/$500 colision deductible
-$100k/$300K coverage for bodily injury and unisured motorist
-Rental car coverage
-Primary vehicle driven 15000+ miles annually
-Live in suburbs of Detroit, MI

Quote: $707 for 6 months ($118 per month)

Now, consider that the on-line quote for a 2003 Mazda 6i with all the same policy details is $632 for 6 months ($105 per month). When I actually called my agent several weeks ago, they quoted me $450 for 6 months on the 6i. If you factor in the same percentage drop for the RX-8, in theory I can insure it for only $502 for 6 months....or a mere $40 more than my Ford Escape was costing me before I got married in April.

I've been insured with State Farm ever since I started driving back in 1991. I've been through two accidents (one very serious) which were not my fault (drunk drivers both times), and they've always taken care of me and kept my rates extremely reasonable. I've never been able to find another company who can even come close to SF's rates.

Heck, with a rate that low, maybe I can convince my wife to let me get the RX-8 instead of a Mazda 6!!

I checked on insurance today with State Farm finally as I see that they finally have it in their computer system. Great news for me! The six month premium up until I turn 25 is only $877.69 which ironically is LESS than the premium on my Prelude (I just sold) when it was already two years old. Thank God for four doors!! When I turn 25 in a few months, the six month premium will be 511.80. Not shabby at all.

From State Farm, in Frederick MD, 40 miles outside of DC:

50/100/50 BID - 50 comp 500 coll deducts

$355 w/ pleasure < 10K annual use

$435 as work daily driver > 15K annual

includes 2.20 for Emer Road Svc, which we won't need for 4 years.

42Male,married,a couple minor speed tickets, not sure if those are considered, plus several discounts - multiple cars, multiline, etc.

Just checked with our Allstate agent:

50/100/50 w/ 500 deductible
daily commuter vehicle
2 drivers: 45yo male, 35yo female; clean records
multiple car discount

$547 / 6 months. That's about $30 / 6 months more than we pay for the wife's '02 Miata. :)

Total premium for all three vehicles (RX-8, Miata and 92 Explorer): $1307 / 6 months.

Hope and pray for the change in rate at 25. I was told that over and over by my State Farm agent. I turned it didn't change because my wife wasn't 25 yet. Then when she turned 25 their was a new reason I don't remember what. It never changed only went up every year or so (no accidents or claims). Insurance is a total racket.

that not bad paying $520 every six month that a great deal. i own a rx7 93 full cov and i pay 1,200 a year. the rx8 is very cheap because is a 4 seater -(sedan) that good when it comes to ins. jersey has the highest ins rate because of accident . Only one company didn't loose money and that was state farm. That is why jersey has the problem with in ins company.

Amazingly, this can go for a long time - when I purchased my current car, a 2003 model in December 2002, they didn't have the 2003 in their system yet so they had to charge me strictly based on the base price of the car...

Just some interesting information:

I called for a quote on Friday and I was somewhat pleased. 1250/year
500/ded.
But get this, that is for the Auto which is what I want so its cool however, the 6mt is on the "banned list" They said they have a formula that looks at a lot of different variables like 0-60 times and so on and it came out "banned"
Just thought I would relay the info.

My 8 is insured and the cost is just over $400 per half year. We are with Allied, the Independent Insurance Agent's version of Nationwide. They insure the car as a 4-door sedan, and I am 49 with a very clean driving record and multiple cars (3 others) insured.

Good luck!
