"Mazda Develops Impact-Absorbing Structure for Aluminum Hood to Enhance Pedestrian Protection

Tokyo, Japan, Apr. 02, 2003 - (JCN Newswire) - Mazda Motor Corporation has developed a "Shock Cone Aluminum Hood," which has an all-new impact-absorbing structure aimed at enhancing pedestrian protection. Compared to conventional framed aluminum hoods, this new structure has the potential to significantly reduce the severity of head injuries that can result when a pedestrian is struck by a car. The all-new hood will be used on the Mazda RX-8 due to appear in showrooms this spring, and will be gradually incorporated into other Mazda products. . . ."

-- Just saw a picture of the 'dome' structure of the hood - That is going to look so sick when I strip out the lining and polish up each dome! Drill swirl the flat parts, then put the large wheel on and swirl each bowl, then some clear laquer to keep it shiny, sweet!

the whole front end of the car (from the angle of the low nose to help reduce leg injury to this cool ass hood) was created with the highest safety in mind.

Now we will have to watch as they use an RX-8 on the Jacka$$ show. I can see them now, throwing themselves on the front of it as it comes driving by.
