Spent the morning taking the front bumper off the car so as to test fit my new kit. (See thread http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=28850&page=4)

Quite easy to do actually,

1. Remove the push clips round the splash guard bits in the wheel arches.
2. Remove the screw that holds the side indicator, unit unlips, remove bulb from unit.
3. Remove the bolts along the front underside of the bumper (about 10 of them)
4. Under the bonnet, remove the push clips from the plastic protector at the front of the engine bay and remove protector.
5. Remove the two bolts and push clip that hold the bumper on under the protector.
6. Gently prise the sides of the bumper apart and they unclip, then slide the whole thing forward until the fog light cables are exposed. Unclip the power cables.
7. Hi Power - unclip the hose connecting the headlamp washers. Easiest to do this at offside where there is a clip and connector joining two bit of cable.
8. Slide the bumper off.

Have to do it again in a few weeks once the new bumper is painted, so if anyone wants pics let me know.

Someone, somewhere, did a thread on this before... but I'd love to see you flesh this one out with pics orbist, so we have it all in one place.

Should have the bumper back from the shop early next week so will take some photos when we remove the stock one again.

The RB oil cooler screens come with a good set of instructions for bumper removal.

Orbist, when you add pics to your excellent instructions, this'll be a complete DIY. Until then, I've moved it to the Exterior forum.

It started pissing with rain in the middle of us removing the bumper so I had to abandon the picture taking, need to remove the bumper at some point to put a new grill on, so will try again when I do that!

I just had mine off, and put it back on this AM. It has to be the easiest front bumper assembly I have ever taken off. Mazda did a great job in designing this car. No clips to break......easy to do with one person......

Could someone comment on how different the bumper removal is if you have the Front Air Dam installed?

Thanks,
-Dennis

No difference what so ever. The front air dam is connected to the front bumper cover. Same bolts, same fasteners, same method.
