Alright, so it's an old article, and may or may not be quite accurate, but it's an interesting read nonetheless.

I hope no one believes mass media when it comes to stuff like that. It's like a sociology major solving a differential equation involving complex numbers. Hint: the answer involves sines and cosines ;).

Has anyone tried burning a lower grade in their 8? I always use premium but over the summer I drive alot of highway miles and it really seems like a waste. However not as much as damaging your engine if in fact that is what will happen.

of course it's fine. you're not going to have a catestophic engine grenading or anything, especially during relaxed highway cruising.

What is the HP sacrifice, do you lose alot of passing ability. what are we talking maybe 5HP or less?

None. A normal car take any different fuel grade at the pump. Going above and beyond the recommended, say using C16, is not going to give you any extra power, despite the claims from those "octane boosters." Ricers have been misinformed.

The 1st 10,000 miles I used only 91 - 93 octane.

The last 10,000 miles she got only 87 octane, Texaco, Exxon or Shell.

I cannot tell a difference, so I'm sticking with 87.
