View Full Version : My Engine is Burning Too Rich? Help! SensaiDG 07-06-2004, 08:37 PM I just finished an exhaust and intake tune and my local shop told me that my fuel/air ratio is too rich. How can I fix this? Thx. zoom44 07-06-2004, 08:56 PM by a a plug and play piggyback system like the Cazoomer unit(go to the vendors section and read thru the Canzoomer forum) or get an E-manage unit and let the shop do the tuning if they are capable. read MazdaManiac's posts about the E-manage. Also what is the build date of your car? do you know about the M-flash for your car's PCM? StealthTL 07-06-2004, 09:00 PM Yup. Anyone who does any work on your exhaust system should be able to spot THAT problem pretty quick! The fix, however, is not so simple..... S SensaiDG 07-06-2004, 09:07 PM my car's build date it may 03 and i don't know anything about the m-flash. I don't have enough $$ for the canzoomer right now. Is there a cheaper way the fix the problem (ie. spark plugs, wires, etc.) It doesn't have to 100% fix the problem but just neutralize it until I get the dough for a piggyback system. zoom44 07-06-2004, 09:18 PM may 03? are you in the US or in Japan? in the states you would need to go get your car's PCM updated to the newest software version. called a "flash" the current newest version is "M". in Japan i don't know what they call it. either way it sounds like a trip to your service deptartment is in order. ask for the newest PCM update. SensaiDG 07-06-2004, 09:28 PM I am actually in Canada but I think my dealership did do something with the ecu of my car. I had a problem with my engine warning light turning on if I start and stop the engine without letting it warm up. The service guy just told me that it was a computer problem and I need a new software installed or something. Is this the same deal as the "flash" you're talking about? RotorWheeee 07-06-2004, 09:37 PM this sounds like you had a flash done ....next question would be how long ago was it done? SensaiDG 07-06-2004, 09:41 PM Hmmm good question I don't know the exact date anymore but it was last winter. Nov or Dec most likely. zoom44 07-06-2004, 09:57 PM yes that is a flash. the next time you have it in for service(or sooner if you want to push them) get tehm to flash it to the newest version. the one you are on is definetly a level or 2 behind. the newest M version helps lean out the mix. RotorWheeee 07-06-2004, 09:59 PM In that case you what to get it done again as that would not bethe most current . If I recall this will take care of some of the rich running . Search this forum for more detailed information SensaiDG 07-06-2004, 10:01 PM Thank for your help! I last Q. Will the dealership reflash the comp for you no questions asked or is it part of your warranty service? Cuz I don't want them to blame it on my aftermarket parts and screw me over. RotorWheeee 07-06-2004, 10:19 PM Have a look here for the description http://www.finishlineperformance.com/rx8/docs/01-022-04.html This is a PCM "update" ... it shouldn't be a problem however I would still suggest check the forum here to see if anyone has had any issues |
