View Full Version : People deliberately parking next to your 8

How often do you notice someone parking next to your 8 on purpose, either to check out your car or show off theirs? Or do you do this yourself?

Yesterday we were out for a drive in my 8 in West Virginia, stopped for lunch, and when we came out of the place, there was a velocity red Mazda 3 parked next to my titanium 8. It was clear the owner had parked there deliberately, because there was plenty of parking closer to the place.

I think it's kind of cool and flattering...what do you think?

The 8 is still somewhat rare here. I would have thought otherwise - I guess Mazda ain't selling a whole lot of them. I've only seen 4-5 in the past month or so. But it never fails whenever I go back to the car, I'll always see someone taking a closer look. The novelty will wear off eventually, but for now, it does seem to get its disproportionate share of attention.

I usually park next to a nice car with my 8 because...the way I look at it: its obvious that the owner of that car has an appreciation for autos...so they won't ding my car doors :)

I am getting tired of wiping the smudges off the windows from people trying to look inside. But it is still fun to have a car that gets this much attention.

I also try and park next to nice cars, but mostly I try and find end spots. Preferably where I can keep an eye on it.

Nice car or not it bothers me if you purposely park your car next to mine in no mans land. If you parked like 3-4 spots away then okay. But don't pick the spot directly next to me. Grrrrr.

Someone should start an RX8 sighting forum...

When I was stationed in Harrisburg PA, there were at least 7 other 8's in the neighborhood.

Now that I am in Augusta, GA, I have seen only 3...

WOuld be interesting to see... have people mark location... and number from 1-5, 6-10, 11-15, 16-20, 20+

I only park on the edges like the first parking spot or the last one on the row. but when I park in the mall I park far and double space ... once in a while this 35g comes and park next to the 8

There is always a riced out, late model Prelude that parks next to me at the college. I don't really like it since I park at the farthest spot. A few times we have arrived together (I always arrive a second earliar than him) and where ever I park, he has to park next to me. I don't get it. He never acknowledges me or even look at the car or whatever. I think it's a way of saying that either my car or his car is worthy of parking next to one another.

Yeah I once parked my RX-8 at work, and this family of what appeared to be 15 was standing around gawking at my car. I was flattered, but unbelieveably annoyed. I wanted to set off the alarm to get the heck away from my car...

What made my day was when I had a customer who had a little kid who owned one of those model RX-7s. I then showed him my car, and his eyes lit up. I thought that was awesome. The dad liked my car more :).

Flattery goes both ways, it just depends on the situation.
