OK... MAZDA FUEL, May-June Vol.3 Issue 2, Page 16:
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced that the 2004 Mazda RX-8 and the 2004 Mazda 3i 2.0-liter and 2.3-liter engines meet the agency's stringent Tier 2 emissions standards, meaning that they are 99% cleaner thatn vehicles 30 years ago.

and isnt the 2.0l engine another heart transplant engine?

Not sure what you mean by "heart transplant engine", but the 2.3, 2.0, 1.8, and 1.6 in the Mazda3 and Mazda6 are all variations of the same engine. The 2.3 includes balance shafts that the others don't have, and the 1.8 and 1.6 versions are not sold in North America.

as clean as this motor may be this statistic does nothing to address the problem that the motor still drinks just as much fuel as it did when it was first released. hell, in some cases it's worse than 15 year old rotaries!

i'm glad its good for the invironment and all but with all the great technical advances they could have done sumthing about the gas consumption.
Isn't using all that gas bad for the invironment?
But I still love the car. Can't complain too much.
