Hey all... I just found this site a few days ago and after reading alot of these postings, I just have to ask... where are all the El Paso and west Texas owners?

OK, to be totally honest, I have only seen 4 RX8's (other than my own) in the El Paso area. Would be nice if any of them are actually here though. If anyone is interested, mine is the red on the west side.

The "8" is a rare bird down there when I was visiting in November/December of last year, didn't see a single one during my stay. I had one of those mondo steaks on some ranch going east on 10 like 20 minutes or so from the city. A lot of those El Paso roads seemed to have gravel and such, maybe a bra or rock-guard would be a good investment for you...

Hmmm, I dont know about gravel... it's usually dust and sand storms we have to worry about here. I'm not upset that there arent more 8's running around here, I'm actually kinda glad. Makes me feel special to have such a rare toy.

I actually had a security guard at the Fort Bliss gate ask me if it was a Viper. Yeh, I call it mini-me. I just laughed and drove on.

Hey Synister, I am in "Sunny El Paso, TX." I am one of two (the other didn't wave back!) lightning yellow on the west side. You are right, there are not very many 8s out here, and the ones I see don't wave back when I wave :rolleyes:

OK, had my 8 for over a year now (purchased last August) and finally found my way here. Good to see a few other El Paso owners here. I am also on the west side (Kings Point). Velocity Red with a handfull of upgrades. Mazdaspeed body kit, fender strakes, chrome gas cover. A friend of mine at work is an RX7 owner and pointed out SRMotorsports as being a great company for rotary engine aftermarket upgrades. I already purchased and installed the pulleys, intake, midpipe and exhaust (very happy with the results).

Well, my name is John and try to wave at my fellow 8 owners. Same as you guys, I usually get no results. I haven't seen any Yellows or Reds (other than my own) yet in El Paso, but will start looking now. My biggest gripe with some of the 8 owners here is the lack of respect they seem to have for their cars (every 8 I see seems to be filthy). I'm going to post some pictures of my baby in the near future, so keep an eye out for me along I-10.

stuck in El Paso...If anyone saw a tan SUV on the I-10W shoulder over Gateway West and General Lee - that was me. 2002 Santa Fe, and the auto-trans crapped the bed in the middle of the freeway. We're supposed to be in Nevada tonight, so that timeline is busted. We're waiting for the dealership to determine how it will take to fix. If it won't be back on the road this afternoon, then we'll rent a car and resume our trip. Now I'm kinda wishing we had taken the RX-8 - a tight squeeze for 4 people, 2 dogs, luggage, and Chrstmas presents, but at least we would have gotten there. Did I mention that I hate auto trannies? What a week.

Not trying to get of being a Texan, in fact it seems that El Paso is almost like a step child compared to the rest of Texas. I am stationed there at Ft Bliss and I am actually not from Texas but I wouldn't mind it if El Paso was lush and green like the rest of the state.

Mazda of El Paso has started doing the recall service checks. They still dont have all the parts in if you need anything replaced, but they can still do the inspections.

That is good to hear, I talked to the service manager there just the other day and he told me my VIN would be one that would require the repair. I'm going to get back with him later and set up an appointment.

I just called, they said the parts are not available until next month.
I havn't received a letter from them, did you guys received anything?

I never recieved a letter from them. I called Larry at the shop in mid-July asking about it and he said they weren't sure what exactly needed to be done at that point and told me to call back in a few weeks. I called him end of July and he said to bring it in. Along with the inspection, they will also give you the R flash. I brought a copy of the service bulletin with me.

Great info, I am due an oil change anyway so I'll give Larry a call and schedule this along with my oil change. Any idea how long it will take for them to do the repair? (minus the oil change of course)

Well, you have this SB to take care of now as well. They told me Friday that they did not have the parts for this one either, but they will do the inspection.

Nope, never heard of him. Of course I'm 33 years old and dont hang with too many college students anymore (they stay out too late :p ). I have spent 8 of the last 9 years in El Paso, so I feel attached to the community, and take pride in the city's sports.

Yes, but if you want to keep the engine cover, you have to alter it some. I remember reading somewhere on the site about someone who cut the holes open a little larger and filed down some of the ribbing on the underside and it fit. I've had my engine cover removed for well over 2 years now and have had absolutely no performance issues and no heat damage to the hood, so its all good either way.

Meh, I'm not worried about performance or heat damage, I just like how clean the engine bay looks with the cover. :)

Last week after washing the car (I still owe pics) I noticed my drivers side tail light was fogged. After one week it still had condensation.

I was really busy all week and didn't get a chance to call Mazda about it. Friday evening, 5 pm to be exact, I called the El Paso BMW/Mazda Service department. (Formerly Mack Massey Mazda)

Larry is the service manager and I told him about my problem. He asked me to hold for a few minutes while he checked to see if they had one in stock.

He came back on the phone and told me there was one in stock but they needed permission to swap this out under warrenty. He said he would make the call and get back to me.

10 minutes later Larry called back and told me that everything was a go and to bring my car in on Saturday.

I called Friday evening and this was taken care of on Saturday. With such short notice I didn't expect them to be able to do this for me but I had to ask.

Kudos to Larry and the El Paso BMW/Mazda Service Department.

Thats great! We really are lucky to have such a great service department at this dealership. Especially when you consider that they usually only have a skeleton crew working on Saturday.

Very true, Larry will take care of everything. I took mine in to have the AC checked 'cause it wasn't working right. When I got it back there was a deep scratch in the leather in the steering wheel.. They had to replace the whole airbag system. It took a week to get the part but they made it a top priority to fix it.

The Kern Place Association - which includes O2, G2, Bar 26, Cincinnati Bar, Rol, Crawdaddy's, Hemingway's, Fellini Café, Ardovinos, Casa Jurado and The Cigar Shop - is bracing for 5,500 partiers this year, says Keith Mahar, owner of Bar 26.

Outdoor decorations, Cajun cuisine, bead vendors and local reggae band Border Roots will help remake Cincinnati.

“We'll have another gentleman, Lionel Johnson, from New Orleans who played on Bourbon Street before he evacuated,” he says. “He's a trumpet player who's played the blues for 10 years. He'll be walking through the crowds and playing.”

Twenty-six off-duty police officers and a sound barrier should keep the night - and the neighbors - happy.

“That's one of the requirements for getting this approved, and one of the ways we've been able to work with the neighborhood association here,” he says.

Inside, the clubs each promise drink specials and DJs spinning all night. It'll cost you $7 and a 21-and-over ID to get you in the doors, which open at 7 p.m.

I just thought I'd let you guys know I found a person that does PDR (Paintless Dent Repair) One of the salesman at Mazda of El Paso recommended him. My wife bought a MazdaSpeed 6 two weeks ago and we already got a dent. This guy charged $55 to fix it and it looks like new.

I was probably the red one. As you know, it is spring cleanup time, so I was cruising Haan Road (which belongs to my unit) and u-turned down Austin. I did see an 8 with what looked like a dealership tag on the front, but I thought it was grey (maybe my eyes are going bad). I did wave.

We have never had any "official" meetings, although I have met a handful of owners just through my daily routine. I think we do have enough El Paso members to put something together. My last attempt was during the quad state BBQ, but no one could make it, or simply didnt want to make the 600 mile drive. We'll have to do something together just to kick things off. Throw out some ideas if interested.

welll i am definitely interested.... as for ideas, maybe a bbq or something like that. also, today i ordered a new exhaust (GReddy) and CAI (AEM) and about the only two places i have found that could put them on for me would be RPM over on Boeing, and Speed Factory. if anybody has any suggestions about which of those would be better or if you know of another place it would be much appreciated. tyvm in advance and c ya'll around :)

I recommend the Speed Factory. Del rebuilt and ported my friend's 2nd gen RX7. Steer clear of Evolution Racing... bunch of kids with a shop. I'm heading to Virginia on Sunday, and will be gone for a week, but when I get back I'm up for a meet. Maybe by then more people will respond.

I'm back from VA. I see no one else was interested...

This is pretty much why we dont have "meets" in El Paso; there is no way to organize anything.

I just got back from taking my 8 to Dallas... Had to ship her to Germany so I can drive her on the autobahn. :)

The trip was long but fun. Now I am without my 8 until I get to Germany.

No, it was supposed to be last week, but they blew me off. Rich over there is obviously just in it for the money; totally unprofessional. I didnt know until too late that Del left the Speed Factory and opened his own place. I wouldnt bother spitting on the floor at the Speed Factory now.

I would still like to make it over to the BBQ, but I will know more when we get a little closer to that date. I would also like to attend Sevenstock, but I know I can only make it to one.

Had the recall check done. Nothing needed replaced, just got the PCM reprogram.

Hey guys, I just wanted to let you know I made it to Germany fine. The 8 got a few gouges in the rear bumper during shipment. The shipper tried to low ball me with cost to fix it but I found a local body shop that fixed it within that price... fixed it nice. I'll post pics if you are curious. The black part of the rear bumper is now Nordic Green Mica like the rest of the car... it looks sweet.

I just got my recall notice too... great... I can't get that checked out until I get back with the car. Mazda of El Paso told me before I left, "Yes Sir, your car is covered under warranty in Europe. If you need to have any warranty work done while you are there you just need to take it to a local Mazda service shop."

There is one about 30 minutes away but they can't do this recall, my car is US specs and they only work on European specs if it is warranty. They can help me but would have to charge me for anything they do. MNAO confirmed this too.

Damn liars at Mazda of El Paso. They told me they spoke with MNAO and were told the warranty was good here. LIARS.. sorry I just needed to vent.

I finished my recall.... Larry was not there when I picked up the car. Joshua took care of me. I don't think he has deep knowledge of what has done. I asked what did they do to my car, and he start reading the things on the papers..... I ask how bad was my engine mount. He said they are pretty bad that they have to replace it. The also update the FW and have new spark plugs.... I am glad that I get out of that hyundai.

Welcome! We only had one meet here in El Paso, you can see pictures of it in this thread (there was only 4 of us there, though). Not sure why the dealer made you take off your intake. I have gone to our dealer with all my aftermarket crap on it, including my nitrous kit and never had any problems with them. I still get warranty work done there too.

I was at Copper Mountain when it snowed here in El Paso, but they did get a pretty good dusting. I requested to move to Bragg. I'm getting close to that time where I need to start looking at where I would like to retire from and NC will probably be it.

I hear you about the retirement thing.. After my tour here in Germany, the next one should be my last. Not sure where I want to go yet though, that is still over 2 years away. Take care and good luck!

Yeah, a real lack of 8's in the area. If you read this whole thread, you'll see how hard it was to put a "meet" together. The people I did get to meet in the area were all great people though, so maybe quality is better then quantity.

Haa...I was JUST down there this weekend and got back to Austin this morning...

I noticed how little RX's I saw...a single white one...that was it...everywhere I went I had people staring at the car...it was wierd. Went to a party and had some teenagers taking pics of the thing with cell phones...

Had at least four ricers rev at me and get served up some pure pwnage...and then picked up some chicos before heading out...now I got sauce on my rug...

I am going into withdrawal I haven't driven my RX in about a month, I crashed it a while back and apparently I messed it up more than I thought. I needed a new headlight, fender, radiator mount, and bumper. This really sucks, the only good thing is instead of buying a replacement bumper, I went ahead and bought a mazdaspeed body kit. I can't wait till i get Nimbus back, and I will post new pics with the body kit.

Evo - Yea that's Me I work around subway at the tattoo shop. That other rx with the red letters is named chris, he has come in here a couple of times and i don't like the letters either but to each his own. I got the kit from sportcompactonly.com $1100 its a extreme dimensions urethane kit fitment is really good but the guys that put it on suck, I need to get it redone.

wow looks really close the ms kit. i really can't tell anything is off with these pics, looks good, also with the staggered wheels. Maybe a small drop should be in order. I would get the ms wing just cuz it looks so close to the ms kit, but thats just me. looks good though.

I agree on the drop, i have the mazdaspeed springs at home just waiting on saving the cash to do the mazdaspeed shocks at the same time. When i lived on the westside i use to see a blue on at the j edwards jewler, but on the eastside haven't seen any.

haha yeah thats exactly it!! it was cosmetically in bad shape when I got it, looked like the previous owner didnt care for it too much, but ive worked hard to try and get it looking satisfactory. but yeah it was my end-of-finals gift to myself.

Cool, I got mine from there back in 06. It had some cosmetic stuff to fix too, but thats taken care of.

The guy with the phantom blue's name is Emilio. I met him through this site and I even have a class with him! It IS an awesome color.

He said he bought it in Cruces just because Mazda of El Paso wasn't going to get any phantom blues.

Sunlight Silver, Mintblue spoiler (genuine), dropped, etc, etc. I have seen a couple of you all around town. I try not to drive it too much, these El Paso roads are freakin' horrible. Just short drives here and there and some highway.

Speed Factory is really good and if you ask, the owner can probably give you some hook-ups on parts. They have a really sweet RX7.

Actually i know the owner, Rich, he teaches performance tunning at my school, he's a pretty cool guy but i really dont now bout the hook ups...he gets a lot of people down in his shop looking for hookups so i dont know how that will turn out, ill ask him bout and see what he says
yeah its a car club that i joined back when i got my first car, we might not have the best looking cars out there but the people are awsome, always got your back and to me thats all that matters, Ive known of clubs that dont even know you by your name but by your car....thats pretty messed up hahahah.....

I have been lookin for rotary meets for the past 3-5 yrs that I have been in El paso. I have a 2005 Mazda Rx8 sport Auto. This 8 was actually my oldest bro's car whom my parent's purchased it for him on 05. My bro left the country about a year ago and the car belongs to me now. Anyways enough with the rubbish.

I actually saw an Rx7 parked in front of the cabana i was like excited to see that. But I didn't see any Rx8's. I hit up my friend while waiting and he said he and his rx8 buddies couldn't make it so I jus left. :(:banghead:

Yea no borla, there was an 8 at tega customs when i went to order the borla and i talked to the owner and he revved it for me. nice and quiet like the borla at idle and mean on the rev. So i went with the tanabe.

Another meet seems to be in the works for this coming week so just keep checking the forum. It be cool if we were a little more organized but this past one was the first meet :)

For the statewide event, where it is being held is roughly 460 miles from el paso. Straight shot on I-10. so at least 1k miles for the trip.

That being said. There are going to be a lot of 8's from many areas showing up. And hopefully we can get 4 EP 8's to show. with 4 people in a room it is pretty cheap. Check out the thread http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=168225.

All details are there. it is awhile away but if any of us plan to go we need to know who is going ASAP so we can make reservations at the hotel.

I'm soo confused!! I think the gloss black would look awesome during the day, but you wont even be able to see them at night. Plus, I think I would miss the stock silver. I still need to tinker :eyetwitch

3pm on Tuesday I'm down. My question hasn't been answered yet :icon_no2: are there any HID xenon fog lights for the 8? cuz I can only find halogen based bulbs. :lol2:

^^ yeah dude, the fogs are h11s so all you would need to do is find an h11 HID kit.

Once you find that, make sure you get a matching relay harness. This connects the the ballasts for the bulbs directly to the battery so that you don't risk frying the stock wires. The relay harnesses are cheap anyway, so its not a biggie.

Is this the kind man? If not can you find me the xenon fog lights... I'm kind of confused with the title of the product ,they show different HID models such as "H1, H4, H7, 9006, 9007" I'm not to sure if that kit is the right one for my car and can you also plz show me where I can get the harness from too.

Aj, ebay is the way to go for hids, the reason why it has all of the bulb sizes is cuz whenever you buy the kit you have to choose your bulb size and color tempature....most of the kits on eBay are plug and play so you won't need the relays .... And yeah the fogs are h11's.... I don't have the eBay member name from where I got my last set but I'll get it asap and send it to you ....I got one of my friends a set of slim ballast hid kit for both his headlights and fogs for about $160...so like $80 a pop

^^Yeah what he said about the bulb type and color temp, you just specify when ordering.

About the relay, it will work without one, but you risk burning your wires in the long run since they are only made to support the current that the stock halogens draw.

The relay connects the ballasts directly to the battery so you eliminate that risk, only using the stock harness as a "switch".

The relay will also just be plug n play with the HID kit that you decide. Just search ebay for h11 relay harness, and they are relatively inexpensive, maybe 15-20 bucks.

Really up to you though man. :)
