hey everybody... i got a question about the stock exhaust.
i saw a video that most of you have probably seen; its a dark grey (maybe? it was dark) rx8 with a borla exhaust that drove around and at the end reved infront of the camera. The car shot out flames that must have been 2 feet long. My question is: is it possible to get the stock exhaust to shoot flames out the back, how long will they be (at best), and what conditions are necessairy to get it to flame. Thanks.

hahah...I attempted this in my driveway...all I got was limp home mode....hahah...

oh man that sucks... but how would you get limp mode from revving in neutral?

Well...the computer doesn't like seeing the engine hovering around 6000RPM for like 40 seconds with the vehicle going nowhere....then being blipped to 8500RPM repeatedly....I must have done something wrong....hahaha Didn't hurt anything.....

I believe you have to drive it at 6000rpms for a few minutes, then stop and blip it.


Also, it may not work with the L flash, as the maps have changed.

yeah...I was just half ass trying to do it...this was before the L flash anyway....I ain't gonna attempt again...haha

Borla's just installed today. Gonna do a flam etest tomorrow. Will keep you gusy posted as to whether or not I can make smores.

ok great. i have seen the borla shoot flames before, and theres a video of it. It would be great if you could get someone to take pics and post them on this forum.

did the boral fame throwing contest last night after install. And guess what it will only work after a few minutes of runnign hard (at or arounf 7k) and you must be in idele. The flames are so bad!

sick im sold i will be getting this exhaust put in soon enough.

i saved this from an old thread, try it ..

Sick Flames

1.Warm up engine

2.Get the exhaust red hot by running the car over 6k RPMs for several minutes

3.Come to a stop or at least keep it under 60 MPH (slower = bigger flames)

4.Rev it hard (WOT) and lift off on the throttle quickly

5.INSTANT FLAMES!!!



As you can see, it is not easy to get flames because the conditions have to be perfect to ignite the unburnt fuel. Likewise I have not seen any damage to the paint or body work on the car but your mileage may vary.

If the pig rich fuel maps are corrected the flames will probably go away for good.

This will work on the stockexhaust or do you need an aftermarket one?

I was ina rush to get home the other night w/a friend around 3am on empty highway and I was going between 90 and 110 the wholeway home for about 7 minutes. The tachometer was between 6000 and 7000 RPMs the entire time. WhenI realizedthat these were the necessary conditions to get the Rx8 to shoot flames w/Borla exhaust I kept it above 6000 till I got off at my exit and then pulled over in a little lot and started revving the car to redline. I paused 1 second between each rev justlike the guy in the flame video did. I was hearing these weird puff noises thatI never heard before whenrevving the car. My friend got out to takea look look at the backof the car after I toldhim it soundedlike my exhaust was shooting flames and he confirmed w/excitement that thiswas the case. He stated that they were not little tiny puffs they were actuallylong short flames so Im assumingthey looked similar to the ones in that video.

I just wantedto let you guys know that you do not need the Borla exhaust tomake flames shoot out of the exhaust pipes. It worksjust fine w/my stock exhaust. Also my car is automatic and it hasthe flash installed so it stillworks after flash. Forany of you who arethat interested in making flames shootout of your Rx8 and have an areawhere you can drive above 6000 RPM for several minutes itsounds like it definitely works. Nexttime Ill makesure Im outside ofmy car to seethis for myself b/c I knowI certainly heard it.
