I talked took these pictures at the st. louis auto show and talked to the mazda rep there. He guarenteed me that with an aftermarket cat and a chip the rx8 would pull 320 hp. If 70 hp isn't an impressive gain for less than $1000 I don't know what is.
The picture of the engine is particularly good, i convinced him to take off the engine cover for me.

I SO hope that is true. When those numbers were previously mentioned, I figured if it was true, then they must have detuned the port timings and/or fuel maps, which would only require either a chip or an aftermarket ECU to "unlock." A chip and a cat? Heck, even my kid's piggy bank could handle that!

NO because it takes more than that. Just knowing that you can tune the Renesis to put out 300+ is exciting. :D

i know in a piston engine that would not be possible. the most u'll get with a new cat-back exhuast and chip in a piston engine is like 30 hp. but since this is a rotary, i dunno, could be possible, hope its possible

Well, it depends. If they've detuned the ignition and fuel maps that much at the factory, then it stands to reason. Now, whether or not that's true is a different question altogether...we'll just have to wait and see.
