Hi. I'm new here and have a story of a deal that almost happen last Sunday.
On Saturday, I faxed a letter to a dealer saying I was interested i their Winning Blue RX8, but need to trade-in my 2002 Yamaha R1 for it. Got the call to come in. We worked some numbers $350 for 48month lease w/$1,500 out of pocket.
As I started signing the papers to give the dealer power of attorney on my bike, I asked the question, "how are we going to pay my credit balance that my R1 is on?" The general manager goes, "what balance? I was told there was no lien!"
I told the sales staff that I had put the Yamaha on a low interest credit card, so there was no lien. But my intent in sending the fax the night before was to find a dealer who'd discount their RX8 to get me out of the R1.
The general manager said he was unaware of that. They had the impression I was using the R1 as a down w/o a balance to payoff.
However, I distinctly remember telling the sales person and the sales manager SEVERAL TIMES I had a balance to pay off and showed them a copy of my fax.
I was about 30-45 minutes for driving off in a RX8, trading the R1 and getting such with the R1's payments.
So, could the dealer have been trying to pull a fast one, thinking I'd forget about the balance until the next credit card bill came?!
Did I mention I don't trust car dealerships?
