The RX8 deal that almost happened.

Hi. I'm new here and have a story of a deal that almost happen last Sunday.

On Saturday, I faxed a letter to a dealer saying I was interested i their Winning Blue RX8, but need to trade-in my 2002 Yamaha R1 for it. Got the call to come in. We worked some numbers $350 for 48month lease w/$1,500 out of pocket.

As I started signing the papers to give the dealer power of attorney on my bike, I asked the question, "how are we going to pay my credit balance that my R1 is on?" The general manager goes, "what balance? I was told there was no lien!"

I told the sales staff that I had put the Yamaha on a low interest credit card, so there was no lien. But my intent in sending the fax the night before was to find a dealer who'd discount their RX8 to get me out of the R1.

The general manager said he was unaware of that. They had the impression I was using the R1 as a down w/o a balance to payoff.
However, I distinctly remember telling the sales person and the sales manager SEVERAL TIMES I had a balance to pay off and showed them a copy of my fax.

I was about 30-45 minutes for driving off in a RX8, trading the R1 and getting such with the R1's payments.

So, could the dealer have been trying to pull a fast one, thinking I'd forget about the balance until the next credit card bill came?!
Did I mention I don't trust car dealerships?

That sucks dude.

It was probably a miscommunication on their part. I wouldn't read too much into it beyond that, but then again, I really don't trust too many car dealerships either. In my experience, there are definitely some that are overly helpful and honest, and some that are less so (not necessarily dishonest though)...

I'd try to work the deal again, but be sure you tell the sales dude, AND the sales manager what you understand the deal is to be BEFORE you get to the finance guy.

I remember when I traded in my car I had asked them to transfer my CD changer to my new car - a condition of the sale. They wrote up the final paperwork and didn't put it in. I said, "Where's the subject?" "WHat subject?" We're talking about less than a hundred bucks and they were giving me grief about it...

ABG,

JUST BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU GO BACK HAVE ALL YOUR INFO READY AND MAKE SURE ALL AGREEMENTS ARE ON PAPER AND SIGNED BY MANAGEMENT.

It won't have the same zip as your R1....but it'll be much warmer. ;) CJ

Don't lease it unless you have to. You'll love it and wont want to give it back to some stranger. Besides, you'lll be less likely to do mods on it. That's a major part of the fun, making yours look different!

Actually, I have another bike for the "zip." Not to mention, in a few months, Arizona will be too warm for motorcycles.

Why would a dealership ever want to assume your debt on a trade in vehicle?

Because if they didn't, I won't buy it from them. :) Also, since my current car's lease doesn't expire until July, time is on my side.

Actually, that dealer was also moving and having a liquidation sale on their on lot inventory. I was factoring their sale, plus Madza's $1,500 cash back to cover the negative equity on the R1.

My "alternate plan" ;) was to sell it privately to any person at any Madza dealership. Doing that would save me the trouble placing a news paper ad and having people come over and ask for test rides. Not to mention the stupid questions like, "dude. I can't pay the full thing now. Can I pay you monthly? Dude, I'm good for it. Promise!"

That sounds so familiar . . . .

Mine Almost Too

I went to my local Mazda dealer yesterday for the second time.
Took a test drive about 3 months ago. Inquired about what leasing would cost etc. They had two leasing sources one of which was Mazda. I'm looking at ordering a Silver/Blk/Red loaded without Nav. He quoted me $31500 as a sell price sticker was $33500 so I thought it was a pretty good deal. Having done my pricing research so I thought. I came here today to actually get some input on living with one day to day only to find that Mazda has been offering $1500 lease cash. So I call to ask about it and he said he factored it in to which I replied that your trying to make $2300 on top of holdback! I said I've heard of $300-$500 over invoice plus this $1500 back for below invoice sell prices. He said he do it but he would have taken me. Slimeball and kicking myself for not coming here to get all the info. first. I'm in a 01 S2000 now that goes off lease in July.
