View Full Version : car bra
george thomas 02-22-2004, 10:11 PM After looking with horror at the limited range of car bras being manufactured and offered here in Australia, I eventually found and purchased an original factory Bra from Rosenthal Mazda in the U.S for $99 U.S
What can I say other that it fits like a glove and looks fantastic.
It even has a great Rx8 logo on it.
Strongly recommend to anyone looking for a car bra to visit the Rosenthal Mazda site. They provide great promt service (delivered in less than a week from the states) at a great price which was much much cheaper than here in Australia .

Velocity red Cloth OZ Rx8
KARCPA 02-24-2004, 05:40 AM how about a pic! and a link to the site or the address
thanks
what about freight and duties
Hymee 02-24-2004, 05:58 AM Probably no duty if it under $100
george thomas 02-24-2004, 06:23 PM Only extra cost was $32 U.S dollars for prompt express postage.
Dont have photo as yet ,can access picture on Rosenthal Mazda's web site or do search where U.S customers have taken photos of their cars with exact car bra.
As I live in Albury Car bra is invaluable but there was no way that I would have been seen dead with Oz version.
Have had comments by people who say that my car bra is the best they have ever seen.

takahashi 02-24-2004, 08:02 PM I think highway drive needs a bra - you never know what the dirty trucks are up to! :D
Hymee 02-25-2004, 03:21 AM Makes a nice complimentary piece of protection for the grill kit!
oodlum 02-25-2004, 06:52 AM Is that Rosenthal Mazda site the one that redirects to
http://www.finishlineperformance.com/ ?
I've tried to order stuff from there but found the shipping extremely prohibitive. Agree it looks great. I'm driving across the country soon but won't be going without a bra.
This is what the Rosenthal Mazda site quotes me when I go through the checkout:
Qty Description Unit _Amount
------------------------------------------------------------------------
(1) Front Mask - Full $97.20 $97.20
____ Vehicle Option is Without Front Air Dam
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Subtotal: $97.20
Shipping & Handling: $124.80
Total: $222.00
Oh yeah - did I mention I picked up my 8 TODAY?!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm about to curl up in bed with the owners manual. Ecyclopoedia RX-eightica by the look of it.
takahashi 02-25-2004, 03:41 PM Well done oodlum... we should catch up someday... oh there is a drive day by Evans @ Sandown on 16th April. P/M me if you want details.
Regards to the bra ---- 100 bucks to ship... what a rip off!
oodlum 03-01-2004, 07:09 AM Thanks takahashi
I'll have to miss the drive day - I'm migrating to the Byron Bay area at the beginning of April.
Should catch up before that though.
BTW have you ever ordered anything from japanparts? I'm wondering how long delivery takes.

Definetely worth considering as u know i am heading of to Melbourne after the Wakefield drive day .
The bra sounds like a worthwhile investment , anyone interested in a group purchase ??????????
cheers
michael
timbo 03-01-2004, 05:58 PM The one from Rosenthal certainly looks a neater fit than the local one I saw. Yep, I could be up for it, but a group buy, while potentially achieving a discount on both freight and purchase price, might bring us into dutiable territory and hence more hassle and time delay.
Anyone with experience on this?
Lock & Load 03-01-2004, 06:02 PM Timbo
Good point on the group buy .
These bras come with or whitout covering for the Air damms ,whats best????
cheers
michael
timbo 03-01-2004, 06:11 PM I guess it depends whether you are planning to get the front air dam, which I guess is the standard Mazda offering -- see http://www.mazda.com.au/accessories_pl.exe?id=43.
I'm not so 'without' is my choice :)
george thomas 03-01-2004, 07:44 PM Freight cost me $32 U.S. ,not $100 .
All you have to do is get on the phone as I had done and place your order . You then fax through your details including address and credit card details and then within 5 days bar bra was delivered to my front door for $32 U.S freight and $99 U.S for the bra for a total cost of $131U.S .
Get on the phone you have nothing to lose and plenty to gain.
Anyway local bra was up around the $400 plus dollar mark.

As the US cars dont get the wiper washers on the front bumper have you allowed for it on your car .( cut them out ) or disconnected them ???
If you were to place the bra on your rx8 and not allow for the functioning of washer it may cause damage to their operation , .
Does anyone know how to disconnect their wiper washers on the front bumpers ????????????

rotarenvy 03-02-2004, 02:20 PM I tried Rosenthal Nissan Mazda
this week
"We were upgrading the shipping part of the shopping cart software this
weekend and did not have the shipping rules set up properly for
international calculations.
The actual UPS charge for shipping your package is $89.00
Let us know how to proceed. We apologize for the inconvenience."
they want to charge me $89 just for the shipping! that's crazy it is some international express but it should only be round $60 .au for something this size and weight.
trussville mazda was about the same price as rosenthal :(
george was lucky.
Lock & Load 03-02-2004, 03:13 PM Rotaryenvy
I spoke to Tommy from spares at Rosenthal MAZDA in US this morning he quoted me $97.20 for the bra and $89 for the UPS (united postal service ) so that is correct .
I agree posting cost is high but its still cheaper than buying in Australia and our Mazda dealer s dont have them .
For those that are interested Tommys phone number is 0011 -703-749-6451 .
Rian Derrick a New Zealand Mazda dealer told me that the US part number for the bar or mask as they call them in US IS AS FOLLOWS .
Car bra Without front air dam : 0000- 8G-K01
Car bra with front air damm :0000-8G-k02
Those that have the wiper washers on the front bumpers will have to make allowances for these either by disconnetting them or adjusting the car bra as in US they dont get the wiper washer s.
Does anyone know how to dissconnect them?????????
cheers

fatmarco 03-04-2004, 10:29 PM hey i'm interested.
do we know what robco's bras are like?
holes in the bumper for the washers?
there is something curious on the robco website...it says something about not using on cured and hardened paint. I thought all paints are cured and hardened before they leave the factory???
Lock & Load 03-04-2004, 11:30 PM fat marco
Robco is situated at :49 Shepherd st , Marrickville 2204.

If you or another forum members checks their bras out we will then be able to see the fit and quality of their products ,
If andrew sharpens his price i may buy Aussie instead of American .

Lock and Load,
Is your U.S.A sourced car bra the official Factory car bra with the nice little Rx8 logo printed on it?
I have the official bra from Mazda America with the logo on it ,it fits like a glove and looks fantastic.
I was down in Melbourne (from Albury) a few weeks ago and everybody was admiring it which normally isn't the case with a car bra on.
I was fortunately very lucky to purchase from Rosenthal Mazda before they started charging like a wounded bull for delivery to Australia on their website(my former user name was George Thomas).
Congratulations on your purchase.

I think i have seen the one you guys have. i saw it on a US web site. Looks sooooo much better than the Aus ones. And at $200 bucks still a lot cheaper.
How did you go with the Headlight washers? Do you just disable them when you have it on?
thanks for the responses

With the headlight washers there seems to be two options , one is to disable them or get the bra cut to allow them to stay functional .(i am afraid they may look like yellow nipples sticking out )
I have not decided which option to take as yet , i have to weigh up the pros and cons

Or Red Nipples in my case...:D
I was thinking about getting the bra cut for the headlight washers but then also getting patches of the same material made and use velcro to stick them on when driving thru the day. .... similar to the Aus model.
Don't know how pratical this is would be though.... :(
takahashi 06-30-2004, 06:49 AM It will be a easy fix the me then :D

Brad
Solution to car bra instalment .
The connection to the motor that cotrols both the wiper washers and the headlight washer(WHICH WORKS ON WATER PRESSURE FROM WINDSHIELD WASHER )is situated right below the wiper washer container , if you unplug the connection you have disabled the front headlight washer , problem solved , however you wont be able to spray or use your windshield wiper washer .
Its no major dramma just make sure your front windshield is clean before you put on your car bra and disconnect the washers , and then reconnect it when you are not using the bra .
.

takahashi 07-02-2004, 12:47 AM They have bra for lip and lipless.... whatever that means...
I am thinking of buying it but I want to ask Michael how do you it on? Is that a hassle?
How do you take it off? Don't tell me with one hand ;)
Lock & Load 07-02-2004, 03:24 AM TAKA
The instructions are simple you only need a small phillips screwdriver as part of the bra is attached and secured to the front wheel arches .
Its more of a niggly type of job and you require patience to fit the bra correctly , i anticipate a 30 minute exercise to fit .
cheers
michael
L&L,
Takes me no longer than 5 minuted to fit on a daily basis after initially installing the press studs in wheel liner

I'm sorry but that is totally hideous. Why get a nice looking car if you are going to cover it up in a ugly black canvas bag. Does it come with a matching gimp mask to protect your identity for comitting such a crime?
Cheers
---Dave
timbo 07-04-2004, 08:28 PM Dave, I think we all agree with you but there are two distinct differences between Aus & the UK -- big bugs, and bad roads with stones and lumps of shredded HGV tyres that are kick up and hit one's car regularly.
Am sure you experienced this on your recent travels.
But despite this, I have thus far not invested in a bra -- but I do have quite a few stone chips as a consequence. Also, if you search in this forum, you should see some photos of a very bug smeared 8 -- maybe L&L's or wallerc's

The black bra acts as a fashion accessory and matches my black balaclava that i use for the odd job or two .j/k
On a more serious side i developed 4 stone chips plus millions of F$%ING locust kamikazies on my 5000km trip , i was lucky to have the Hymee bug grill otherwise my car would have definetely heated up .
The bra gives the car a real bad boy racer look however as Timbo mentioned earlier here in Australia we have bigger rocks insects and those of us that enjoy the 9000rev limiter need this to ward off stone chips and other flyng debris .
cheers
michael
druck 07-05-2004, 04:30 PM I understand the problems with stone chips over there, I thought I had some nasty chips until Hymee showed me the chunks out of his bonnet. But there is a solution - a clear Bra - which doesn't ruin the look of the car.
Over here its called ArmourFend, and is the same material which is applied to the rear wheel arches. It can be fitted for quite reasonable cost to as much of the front of the car as you want, and is invisible apart from a fine line at the edge of the material.
I'm going to get it fitted at some point, but I'll have to get all the existing chips professionally repaired first.
Cheers

Not everyone shares your passion for this solution read this by Kwullen .
MY baby had the RoadBlock vinyl covering on the nose, before I got it and this crap SUCKS. It isn't nearly as glossy as the paint and is IMPOSSIBLE to get bug stains off of. If you rub it with even a soft cloth to try to remove the bug splatters, it scratches the vinyl and you can't get them out. The guy who sells/installs the crap hasn't responded since I told him I want it taken off. I guess he doesn't know I don't care about the 300 bucks, I want my car to shine!!
Therefore, I will tell ALL OF YOU GUYS - DON"T BUY THIS SHIT!!!!

NB: Those of you that have the Hymee grill kit installed will have to find alternative means to anchor down the bottom section of the bra as the grill impeads the hooking and tieing up instructions (Hymee, you will have to re-design the grill to compliment the RX8 bra!!!)

This will stop you from standing in front of your car and admiring the front end because you will be to bussy actually enjoying changing gears and driving the car the way it was ment to be driven ..

Eh? We only get manuals in the UK, due to most people having two arms and two legs, and a rough idea of how to move them at the same time. You'd have to be hoping mad to buy an auto :)

You can still drive it and admire it at the same time, with those nice big glass shop windows along the high street. Put a bra on it, and you'll have to get a pair of blinkers so you dont catch sight of your self, or small children bursting in to tears when they see it.

I'm not sure what L&L's point was -- he's getting on a bit, and has probably confused you with another Pommie (Glenn?). But I think we're probably in voilent agreement in relation to the bra, but separated by vastly different driving environments. IMHO, there's no need for a bra -- of any type -- if the only driving you are doing is passed "those nice big glass shop windows along the high street".
I seem to spend more of my time passing those nice big B-double HGVs that hurtle along Australia's inland highways, throwing up stones, tyre remnants and road kill. A good reason for having a bra -- and one that is readily removable and may not deteriorate the car's paint surface over time. Each to his own.
Lock & Load 07-08-2004, 10:32 PM Timbo
