Greetings from the northwest. I was wondering if anyone around here is interested in changing out my spark plugs, coil wires for me. I would do it myself but my hands can't do that kind of work anymore. I am willing to pay you for your time $$$ food, drink et al. I really don't want to take it to a dealer and if I do it myself I know it's going to be friggin painful. :wallbash:

This is a 2004 AT less then 60K miles on it. The car won't start for some reason because I rarely drive it. I knew the plugs were going bad and was told by the dealer that I need to replace the coils and wires too. I can smell flooding and already tried holding the pedal to the floor and crank for 10 seconds several times. I have never had a problem with flooding before so I am pretty sure it's time to replace.

Once Dondo get's back, I'm sure he'd be willing to help out also! And if I had a place to do it (garage is currently a storage shack) then I'd help you out, they're easy to check, just annoying to get to!!!

Ive never done it on a rx8 but ive done it pently of times on a rx7 AND HAVE YOUTUBE READILY AVAILABLE!!!! LOL

OK I decided to give it a try by myself. I got the sparks out and the air-filter and it doesn't look too bad of a job. Parts are supposed to arrive today. :) I did an oil change while I have the car up on jacks and that wasn't too bad once I got a oil filter socket. Looking forward to some zoom zoom zoom. I need to meet up with you NW RX8'rs one of these days.

Ok I changed everything and it went smooth but car still won't start. :( Basically the same problem before I replaced the coil wires and plugs. I tried holding the gas pedal down but not go. Any suggestions appreciated. Going to seach the forum

Were the plugs wet when you removed them?.....it's likely flooded....and with an auto..the easy way won't work :)

You will need to inject some ATF..or windshield washer fluid into the vac ports on the lower intake to help get some compression....

Make sure you have spark and fuel though ;)

I was able to deflood by pulling out the fuse on the fuel pump and disc the cat pump and then did the 5 sec start wait routine several times putting the fuse back in and out till it would start. The first couple of times it tried to start but ran real rough and died, instead of trying to keep starting I pulled the fuel pump fuse out and did the 5 sec on off several times then put the fuse back in eventually I was able to keep it running long enough to burn out the excess fuel and build up.
