But I am curious which photos to believe.

The RX8 press pack seems to be full of photos showing rotors that look (to me) the same as my old 13B rotors.

I have seen any number of articles about RENESIS that show photos of these funky 'skeletal' type rotors which I believe are similar to those in the 787B. (Or maybe even the RX-01)

So - which does renesis have ?

a) Old shape familiar looking rotors
b) Cool skeletal looking rotors

Like I say - does not really matter, I just wanna know !

PS - I do wonder if this has always been the case. Being a rather long term rotary fan I have (like you do) a 12A rotor case and rotor all nicely shot-blasted as a desk ornament (sad , I know - but what can you do?) Point is - the rotor in there is damned heavy - certainly does not feel hollow... Guess there has been progress !

Yes Morgan, its always been that way. I have a rotor and housing from the 12A I blew up a few years ago. The rotors are hollow. They have to be for proper cooling. The eccentric shaft has a pressurized oil passage running thru it which sprays oil into the rotor as it rotates. This is the primary reason for an oil cooler. This oil spray occurs on the side of the rotors which face the intermediate housing. When the rotor fills with oil, it runs back down into the oil pan. It sounds goofy, but it does the job.
