OK... it rained hard here in Austin for about the last 2-3 days solid. I left my 8 out of the garage both nights since it was dirty from the rain and I figured sitting in the rain would clean some of the muck from the rain and the wet roads off.

Anyway, I'm in the office at work and co-worker comes up to me and tells me my cars lights are flahing sitting out in the parking lot. I think "What the heck?". I went out, and sure enough, the hazard lights are blinking. I get in and press the hazard light button... no change... no matter how the hazard light button is set, they're on. So I turn the key on, and I hear a little buzzing noise for a second(from behind the dash maybe?) then the hazards quit blinking. Check the hazards and blinkers and everything works fine.

So, I think , it's been raining, something probably got a little damp and caused a temporary weird little electronic problem. Everything was OK on the drive home. I garaged it for the night, thinking it would help it dry out a little.

So I get up this morning and start the car, and the left blinker/hazard goes nutty, blinking a million miles an hour, very erratically. It only does it after the engine is started, not just turning on the key. And it's only the left side now, front and back. And the only way I can get it to stop is the remove the hazard light fuse from under the hood, which unfortunately causes the blinkers to quit working. Also, if I turn the blinker or hazards on, they all function properly. Once I turn them off, the left goes wacky crazy again.

So, I'm still thinking something got wet and is causing it, but I don't know what or where it is. Guess I'll take it in tomorrow and see what they can find. Anyone have any ideas or had this problem before?

dude you are screwed!!!!

no i'm sorry just kidding! i am sorry for your pain but that is just so erratic it's funny! go get it checked out right away. you don't want to wait only to find out it was some kind of ground fault and it shorts blowing your whole electric system or the whole fuse box or something.

I know turn signasls will blink quickly to warn you if a bulb is out. Don't know if our "8"'s have this feature, but doesn't sound like you have your turn signal on either. I'd take it in for sure, but I'd try to disconnect the battery for like 30 minutes to see if that clears it up.

Check this real quick:

honk your horn.

Does it make a sound? If not, it's possible you fried the fuse, and your alarm was going off with no sound (like happened to me recently).

Definitely a short somewhere, and definitely an issue for the dealership to deal with under warranty. First I've heard of something like this too. You might want to have your dealership check the seals on all your external lights - I have heard about some of them leaking and/or fogging up, and this might be a related problem.
