I live in Brisbane where we are experienceing some seasonal warm weather. i am finding that a fair bit of heat seems to radiate from around the centre console area where the gears are located.

i guess as the engine is located towards the end of the engine bay there is very little room between the front passangers and the engine and transmission.

I was wondering if anyone else has noticed this and if therewas any way to further insulate the vehicle

Yep - They get hot anywhere near the exhaust. My boot is noticeably cooler since I put the cat-back on.

Yeah, have a look at a cutaway of the car, the back of the engine is basically next to your feet, given the space constraints, there's only so much they can do to insulate that area, hence tons of heat.

hey Pepe, do you get people calling your black 8 a Batmobile as well? I reckon the black looks pretty cool. It certainly gets lots of looks.

That lump in the floor just infront of the seat on a RHD is the catalyst, which is going to get a little bit warm.

Yup i reckon youy could boil a cup of coffee in the front drink holders after a vigorous drive! Not much use for cans of Coke in summer!

Actually, cabin heat and, indeed, heat in the central compartments is OK if you are driving hard, but fast, as the air takes a lot of it away. It seems to get hottest in slower city driving

I find that with continuous driving it stays reasonably cool... but stop for an hour and then get in and drive and it is really warm.

it does get hot around your leg area.. My girlfriend complaining about it yesterday. :) So i put on the air con to shut her up hehe.

I always put my wallet and mobile in the center console were the cup holders are and they are both boiling just by a short 5 min drive.

Hey fellow owners,
Ive just pruchased my 8 a month ago and ever since, the car continuously heats up in the cup holder compartment aswell as from the floor on drivers side. But never-the-less, this cars the bomb!

Yeah it gets pretty f##king hot inside the cabin.
The really annoying thing is the aircon vents don't seem to distribute the air flow evenly.
The centre vents have to be the worst design I've seen in a car for a while (both in aesthetics and function).

Hymee....Seems like there's a market for the HymeeHeatShield:cool:

Some customers may complain of the front cupholder area of the center console becoming hot after extended driving, causing cold drinks to warm. Due to the heat from the exhaust system (catalyst), the center console (cup holder area) becomes hot. This is due to insufficient insulation between the floor panel N cup holder. A insulation pad is available to reduce the heat transfer to the center console. 1. Remove the upper panel, hole cover (cigar lighter) and storage box from the vehicle. (See WSM 9-17-8) 2. Remove the six screws from the upper panel and remove the rear onsole. (See WSM 9-17-8,9) 3. Attach the heat insulater pad to the bottom of the front cup holder in the rear console removed at the above step NOTE: Be sure to attach the heat insulator pad so that the bottom of the cup holder is wrapped. 4. Re-install the parts reverse order of removal. Parts information: F151-55-161 Heat insulator pad
