350Z Owners Are Hoons?

Hi,

Just curious whether anyone else has had a 350Z owner try to race them?

I've had my 8 for two weeks and I've had 3 Zed owners take me on in rolling starts, 1 "Hairdresser" edition tailgate me and 1 line me up at the lights seeking retribution for losing COTY.

Anyone else been faced with the same situation, or is it limited to my neighbourhood?

Don't worry your not the only one. Today while i was drive from parra to the city i saw a silver 350z coming up my *** and full tail gate me. We meet on the freeway and ended up all the way into the city he eventually turn off at sydney uni.
he was weaving in and out of the traffic trying to catch up to me ???
and when he did he try to lose me lucky my 8 is in good shape and is capable of keeping up lol

I'm sorry to sound like a *****, but...

I hope you are not talking about street racing. Since this is a public forum, we cannot condone it here.

Just letting you know before we cross the line. And don't worry - It hasn't been crossed yet!

Not saying I'm a prima-donna or anything. The only racing I've done has been on the strip. The RX-8 can beat 5.7L Commodores to 60' and beyond, but not the full length of the 1/4.

But I have done some spirited driving when the conditions prevail.

Hymee,

Definitely not talking about Fast and Furious style events.
Only referring to periods of, as you put it, "spirited driving".

Simply wanted feedback from other 8 owners as to whether this was a regular occurence or simply restricted to my 'hood.

Nojooc,

No worries. No harm done. Like I said, the line hadn't been crossed, and perhaps I was a bit premature.

I find all sorts of drivers wanting to have a go. Sometimes they come flying up behind me, just to have an enquisitive, "nice car mate" look.

Cheers,
Hymee.

Took 3 turns, left, right, left in the wet sideays the other day. unreal =)

This car can recover from the most awkward of sideways slide, from slides your certain your going to lose.

enjoy.

Kas,

It's a lot of fun ain't it? My old S14 was set up for this, but unfortunately was moded to an inch of its life so often it had way too much power to handle when you were "breaking traction".

I love the 8 cause it's got a fine balance between power and suspension set up (could do with another 20kw in the dry though)

That's funny because I used to be a Type R driver and have had the odd encounter with 8's.

Can't recall one ever being a Ti one though.

I drag everyone - but not deliberately. It is my solemn duty as a driver to always choose a free lane at the lights, and to get to the posted speed limit as quickly as possible when the light goes green. This may or may not involve wheel spin depending on the wind direction or the length of the nearby grass.

Whether the car next to me is a 350Z, a Ferrari Enzo, or a 1970 Datsun Ute driven by a octogenerian, or nothing at all. It means nothing. Me, in the car, to the speed limit, as quick as possible.

This may mean that other drivers perceive me as "dragging them" at the lights. It is not intentional, and I will back off when I hit the speed limit (or just over).

well..... sorry to hear that! I don't think it is EVERY 350z driver would like to go against any 8 on the street just because of the COTY title... I think they aren't responsible at all on the street and trying to endanger all the other drivers sharing all our roads. I don't know why those people exist though, if they want to prove themselves good or wanna show off their super fast cars, they should just go to the track!

Once again, being a 350z driver and (would also like to purchase a rx-8 in the future for my better half), really feel so bad about this!

Both of them are great cars and I reckon each car owner shall respect each other.

cheers,

richie

cmon now...first and foremost I can't stand it when i read posts like this. Too many variables when it comes to street racing ESPECIALLY when...

-you assume he wants to race? (maybe he does)
-Maybe he wants to check out the car?
-He could be in a hurry?
-Gives you a bad look?
-you don't know how far you're going to race?

whatever the reason maybe don't assume that you've won a street race/drag race unless you both are on the same page.

I'm sure it's all being interpreted the wrong way.

In chicago if I see an 8 or a Z it doesn't matter what car i'm driving but i'll try to catch up to it...so I can take a look at it. Especially when i see a z because that's the car i'm always inside(I never get to see it move except when I see other z's).

If you have an 8 i'm sure you'll definitely race your way up to the other 8 because you don't see many on the road.

Plenty of cars that go "zoom" pass by me...does that mean they beat me?...you could interpret like that considering your explanation of a race. "hoon?"-must be some lingo/jive/slang eh? hoon does sound a bit derogatory so i'll end it with another vocabulary word "gimcrack."

"Hoon" is Australian slang for "fast, reckless driver" of a car/boat/motorbike etc.

I can't tell you the origin - it doesn't sound like rhyming slang, or any of the other things we Aussies normally do (like shortening a word and putting a verb on the end).

Probably related to "fang", something which hoons quite often do quickly. "Goin' for a fang through the hills this arvo, then I'll be flat out like a lizard drinking before I hit the **** at the local boozer".

"Going for a fang" in the car means to go for some spirited driving.

It is also a pair of things our pet spiders and snakes have. Every house has at least 3, to go with the pair of kangaroos.

Just ask what is a "Map of Tassie", that 'll get ya laughin'!

Cheers,
Hymee.

Tassie, or Tasmania is a large triangular shaped island in the southern waters of Australia.

Here is a hint to put it into perspective:

A vulgar term, said to a female - "Show us ya map of tassie!"
