I figure Jeff is very busy these days and his PM box and Email inbox are probably chock full so I figure we could discuss this possibility here. Reading a recent post by Jedi54 sparked this thread. I have also realized that getting people to do a real BHR dyno day is a bitch.

Anyway, I would assume most dyno shops have a wireless connection or at least a high speed internet connection. What would be the draw backs of having MM tune the car on the dyno using VLC, webex, go to my pc, etc.? He could tune, look at logs, copy tune to your laptop, etc.

I realize there could be some technical issues for the computer illiterate but IT is my true profession and I am sure I could do this from my end without issue and I would be more than willing to assist other locals by offering my laptop, etc.

Hell this could even be done without a dyno in real time while on the road.

It's doable but not optimal. Watching Jeff at the dyno day, he is constantly gazing back and forth between the AP, the tach and the dyno readouts.

Would likely just be simpler to do normal e-tuning

Well, he could be doing his thing on his end while watching me datalog live while driving. I could use the Hymee (way better data logging IMO) or log with the AP and he could check them out after I am back at the house.

I recall Jeff liking to go for a short cruise too...

^ Doubt he does that on every car he has tuned on the dyno.

I have done it and it is totally doable, but requires that the dyno operator is very fluid and aware - preferably a knowledgeable tuner that doesn't mind following directions.

:suspect:
9k: glad to hear I sparked an idea with my comment earlier and as I said before, I completely think this is doable with the proper level of planning and communication.

you'd need:

high speed internet
someone computer / tech savvy enough to know how to quickly datalog and be able to deliver those logs to Jeff in a very quick manner. Email or data sharing site
Dyno operator who can help identify issues that Jeff looks for on the dyno: strange sounds, spikes in AFR's, etc
A live web chat would definitely help for chatting in between runs.
Hell, if you could do a PC 2 PC connect, then Jeff could even watch the dyno operator's screen while the runs are being made but it would require the dyno operator to know / trust Jeff enough to allow that.

Let me know how it goes, I'd love to see this happen

I had Kane teach jon at PTP how to use the cobb at PTP maybe we can talk to JOn @ ptp see what he can do.. Idk what he would charge... but i think if we had a few cars and pay something he would be more than willing to do it...

Ask Jon if he has high speed internet ( I mean who does not these days).

jon wants to know how will he communicate with jeff.

he prefers phone cause he said through emails, and Im it will take longer.

We will have to get with Jeff and see what exact format he prefers.

$0.02

From a technical, remote operations, distributed people point of view, I would suggest testing and working some kind of video as well (SKYPE?) to help with communications. One of the big problems with remote teams is the sense of presence you have with them, and they have with you. There is a ton of communications that is non-verbal. Letting Jeff see the folks there, and letting them see Jeff (or appropriate avatar live feed) might make it a lot easier for everyone involved.
