In preparation for a road trip to Vegas on the weekend of June 18 I took my car into Goodyear to have the alignment check to insure that the car was in spec since there was a slight pull to the left and that I had just lowered the car. I walked out of the store with the Assistant Manager to do the normal information gathering and was told that I would need to pop my hood so they could have access to the top of my shocks so as to be able to perform the service. This wasn't a problem and since my hood was secured with hood pins at the nose I would show them how they worked. So they Assistant Manager directed me in moving my car around to their rack and stopping right before it. After doing so I exited my car and was instructed to pop the hood with the Assistant Manager standing about 12 inches from me. I was then asked to drive the car onto the car rack and to do so I had to lower the hood. Once it was on the rack I went and walked back inside and was away from the car until they asked what I wanted to do with part of my alignment, whereby they walked me through there shop which there are signs that say I can't do that to show me the results. I then informed them of what I wanted and walked back to the waiting area. To finish off my service they pulled my car out drove it around to the other side to fill it with nitrogen in the tires. By this point at least FIVE Different Tech had touched my car in some fashion. They finished all of my requested services and told me my car was ready to go and asked me to pull the car out of the garage. I am then lead through the shop to get my car and pull it out. After pulling the car out of the garage I sat and situated myself for at least 3 mins and then drove off down the road. Once on the road I drove about 12 miles before I got to the freeway getting up to 55mph. Once on the freeway I cruised at about 65mph for about 8 miles when suddenly my hood slams open destroying my custom hood, my front windshield, and denting my roof and moon roof all the while nearly causing me to wreck. I immediately got on the phone with the service station which asked to call me back which I said fine. In the mean time I traveled to the nearest gas station which what at the top of the canyon. They called me back to ask me to come back so take some picture to file a report and I agreed. I then spent the next week being jerked around by Goodyear's customer service and was ultimately told that it was my fault and that it was me that wanted to open my hood even though I was asked to open it and was told that it HAD to be opened to perform the requested service by more than one person including the customer service representative. He then told me that he didn't care what I thought and wasn't concerned that I was going to have my insurance pursue him and the company and in fact dared me to pursue him. Needless to say that is my very intent and that they have lost a customer for LIFE!! I am also now spreading the word on their poor business practices and customer relations. So heed my warning.

Well apparently you dont spend much time actually looking at other import cars that see track duty because if you had you would see that a lot of them add pins to help hold the hood down. But what am I to expect from a guy with his head up his ass.

Well anyways man sorry for your issue, hope all works out, i Dont use goodyear anymore since they screwed me on my first car, they did the whole suspension up front and the next day my brake caliper fell off and destroyed the rotor/pads, they didn't want to take blame but yet they just worked on it.

Had a neighbor get an oil change and they didnt put oil back in, seized the motor up as soon as they pulled out of the lot.

Well I think your exibating the qualities of being a douche because if someone tells you that everthing is finished and your ready to go weather they are a part timer or not. The fact of the matter is they didnt finish the job. And by your logic that means I should check that they tightened my lugnuts after a tire change or check my oil filter is tight or oil cap is tight or anything for that matter. If thats the case then no one should take there car in because after all that checking you might as well had done the work yourself. Needless to say I WONT be taking my car into a shop for any reason and will instead do everthing myself. And I plan on using my insurance at this point to fix it.

I've driven off in a rental before that got a tire changed out at cambodian tire before and the tire fell off as I was driving out, so.... yeah, I would check the lug nuts.
I have a mechanic out in the sticks named Reginald and I trust him, and Walter, the body shop guy. 2 guys I trust with my cars. I suggest to call around, ask auto clubs, forums for a reputable, honnest mechanic.

Here's the greatest mistake - going to a large chain autostore and assuming they know what they're doing. I never let my car out of sight unless I know it is a reputable shop or service department. Pepboys, Goodyear, etc do not fall under that criteria!

Anyways, that's a huge bummer, hope it all works out well in the end!

I think it was a mere miscommunication.

"Insurance won't cover it. Your car is modified" implies that any modified car voids its insurance policy by being modified, regardless of whether the modification was directly involved.

Modifications don't effect an overall policy, I can see them denying a claim on an aftermarket part though. I think you were saying they won't cover it, since the hood is aftermarket; in that case, I agree :beer05:

Some suspension designs require/allow for camber plates at the top of the damper/shock mounting point. Camber plates allow for camber adjustment thus, like the case of an FC, popping the hood is required to adjust camber.

The sad thing is that you have to check your car anytime someone other than you touches it. It seems to be the norm now rather than the exception which is pathetic as you pay these people to do a job and a job they should be doing right.

This should prompt most people to just do their own work on their car but sometimes it isn't either possible or it's more convenient to have someone else do it.

I'm over paranoid due to all sorts of random stuff that I have caught from tire places and dealerships for service.

Everytime my car comes back to me from any service I check it all out. Tire rotation? I check all the lugs on the wheels. (I had one missing one day) Oil change? I check the level and that my cap is there (caught the cap missing on two different ocassions) and that a new filter is on the car. Also, because I pop the hood I also make sure it is shut properly.

Another thing is it doesn't matter what mechanic touches it and where as I have had my issues at dealerships. While working on a vehicle of my brother's I found a few things wrong with it. They didn't put his airbox connections on correctly causing a rough idle problem for him. They also didn't tighten some engine mounting bolts on correctly. They were loose and close to coming off. And this was a Hyundai dealership that had just performed some major interval service for him. Now for a lot of the spendy repairs/maintenance on it I am assisting him with it rather than giving someone money for labor. At least we go back through everything and make sure everything we touch has been reconnected properly.

I was trying to get tires bought and installed by sears and they gave mr the run around for 2 weeks saying no one in the area has the tires. I said bull and cancelled the order. I went to another place and got it all done the same day. I hate poor customer service and crap.

I can except that 10% I should have been a little more diligent with checking but nothing seemed to be amiss so I didnt look to hard. My mistake for not being diligent .

justin has a custom policy through through state farm they will cover each and every part his car has been evaluated and has receipts ofeverything in his car so yeah they will cover it lol, they are actually covering it at the moment

sucks your car got fucked up, but, you need to find a mechanic or tuner shop you trust, alot of times for the same services they'll be a bit cheaper because they can quote the job right and they (should) know what they're doing. Not to mention the quality of work is typically worlds better

Well just giving a status update as I havent posted in a while. My insurance has cut me a check for repairs that need to be performed. Further my new Panspeed Drop Vent Hood is on order. Just waiting for the hood to come in so I can get the car into the shop and have her fixed up. Plus 1 for insurance :jump:

Well Ive been to many race track all over the country and plenty of people use hood pins and its recomended by the manufacture to use them. So if someone doesnt use them thats on them so quit being a fucking asswhole and go play with your little honda civic. :tool:

Well of course I took a quick passing look and when the hood pins are pushed in the direction that they are suppose to go and the ring is folded in the right direction you just might miss it. Especialy if some uses the words YOUR 100% FINISHED AND READY TO GO.

My policy is geared toward covering me when the car is out in public not the track. The track is a whole different stituation.

Your name is Poindexter, you are a ginger, you drive a 1993 civic with a bench for a spoiler, a fart can, and your "custom hood" are two fake glued on hood pins to make it seem like you have hood pins...AND you wear a black muscle tee due to your obsession with Vin Diesel. You got your car aligned at Brake Masters then went to the gas station. You popped your hood, while accidentally putting diesel (you're at 3/4's full before filling up) into your gas tank, and began to show off your blue valve cover and intake to a homeless guy who (high on crack) thought it was a space shuttle due to the giant spoiler.

You closed the hood (but it doesn't close all the way), then you get onto the street and began blasting your ratty ass sound system to a guy with a FC at the stop light, and rev your engine at him. You both take off and the FC beats the living shit out of your car. Then your "custom" hood flies up and smashes into your windshield, and dents your paint faded hood. You're angry about the RX7 pwning you in the butt, so you log onto www.rx8club.com (because you got beat by a rotary, and the guy who kicked your ass is probably on 7club, and you don't want the truth to be exposed) after taking your steroid shot to the butt (because you want to be like Vin Diesel) and begin to go on a tirade about how they put in the (Vin) diesel (lawls), they didn't close the hood pins (even though they are stick on), and they should be held responsible for you being ricer and not paying attention to what fuel you're putting in just because you wanted to show off your freshly spray painted valve cover and mad custom intake from a company called "Intakez fo yo whip".


Now ALL of this can be prevented if you post pictures...
