So I'm not really that big of a techie but I'd deffinately like to get into that stuff. I was just watching a youtube video where there was an app on the iPhone for $40 that allowed you to view real time diagnostics for your car. I don't know if it's possible for the rx8 but it got me thinking. I've seen people with diagnostics on laptops in their cars before. Any suggestions for any software/hardware to do so? or is it not worth it? I have a Macbook pro by the way.

Yeah - that's possible on all cars today. Everything built from 1996 onward. That iPhone app would need something plugged into the OBD port.

I've got the Harrison scan tool, which has PC software. It works well, but I wish I had just bought a self-contained device, like maybe a Scangauge. It's a pain to shlep out the laptop to just read a code, and my attention span lapsed before I ever tried logging data while driving.
