Plan for new modifications before you install them. Here is my summary from the Queens meet thread:
Kane doesn't require too much in travel and stay - a plane trip would be best for him ($150 round trip) vs the drive because he's snowed in down there. He's available from now till the 20th of February. He can stay in a hotel, or he can stay with one of us if we're willing. He charges a flat $500 for the class, which would cover up to two days of classes. So if we have more people, chipping in, it'll benefit us more. The airfare is an estimate for now.
Plane ticket from Newport News, VA or I could drive... but I am thinking that isn't worth it....flights are pretty cheap these days. I have done a few of these, they take a very full day or two chill days....
Hotel or crash at someone's house... I am easy either way. And for RX8 folks I'd do it for a flat $500 plus expenses. So if you want to do one day or two it doesn't matter to me....
If you wanted to be cheap you could fly me in (about $150 I guess), I'll crash at someone's house and run the class over a day or two - so the whole thing would be about 650 in that case. He'll teach us how to understand flash tuning (AP/Hymee), and if we want to, he can teach us Int-X, AEM, etc. He can also do other cars besides the RX-8. It's the basics of understanding how the air-fuel maps, MAF scaling, and various engine factors that affect your tune.
I'll tune at least one car start to finish and walk everyone else through the AP or Hymee etc - flash tuners in general. If you have folks with others like the emanagae Int-X or AEM etc, Mazdaspeed 3-6, STI whatever it's cool I cover those too.He can show us how the tune differs between a NA car and a FI car. If we volunteer a NA car and a FI car, it'll help. I'm willing to volunteer mine - unless someone else wants to. He is not tuning the car just for the person who volunteered. He is showing us how to tune - that is the main reason we're doing this. If you want to learn how, this is the opportunity. You might want to expand on the learning in the future, but that's up to you. If you just want to get a tune for your car, this is not the event for you.
We'd just need a place where we can hang together and have him explain everything to us. Access to the volunteer cars will be best (i.e. someone's place) so we can see how the tuning directly affects the outputs.
Cool man let me know... the one upside of a hotel I guess is guests can use the conference room usually for free I think....though the actual tuning process could easily take place at someone's crib or a dyno etc since you are the ones driving them around to get logs... HEHE
I could do an APexi PFC on a 7 pretty easy, if there are no FI 8's I can just walk everyone through the difference from say mine or J Cab's tune and your NA ones.If you guys are seriously interested in this event, let me know. I'll PM each and everyone of you are are seriously interested. I can't say how much it'll cost each of us until I figure out how many of us are there, and what the exact costs of him getting here are. If there are only 3 or 4 of us interested, it probably will still be worth it. Remember, this is for us to understand how engine tuning works - not just with the AP, but overall.
If we attend as a group, the chances of us all understanding how it works will increase. After all, if one of us doesn't get it, someone else might. Then we can help each other out. If you do not feel comfortable tuning your car, don't feel obligated to jump at this opportunity. I cannot compare Kane to MM. They are different people - but Kane has shown that he is very capable. If you just want to buy a tune from someone, get it from MM. You might still buy the tunes from MM after this class. I'm trying to set this up so I can understand how to tune the rotary.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you guys are interested, post here and I will pm each of you. Please consider this seriously. The more of us that learn about this, the better off we are as a community!
P.S. Kane, if you wish to add anything to this, feel free or PM me. Thanks!
MazdaManiac 02-02-2010, 03:40 PM You might still buy the tunes from MM after this class. I'm trying to set this up so I can understand how to tune the rotary.
You may also want to consider that I already offer a 3-part, online seminar on this for only $175.
No travel required, the dates are flexible and I use an open feedback environment that allows it to be more like a classroom than just some WEB page.
Having someone there to explain the process is pretty awesome, for sure.
But it isn't the only way to do it and the online seminar is a bit more formal and gives everyone access to the software in real time.
Seminar Page (http://www.mazdamaniac.com/cobb/seminar/seminar.htm)
I'll update the dates if anyone is interested.
The seminar covers the workings of all engine management to some extent, not just the AccessPORT-specific stuff.
It has also gone on to 4 parts and the sessions run over (at no additional cost) just to make sure everyone gets what they want from the process.
If anyone shows up with a GTO complete with HP Tuners, radical cam, and heads and wants me to get it to idle nice; you're getting popped in the jaw... :D:

That is an option as well; especially if the number of people is low.
MazdaManiac 02-02-2010, 03:44 PM That is an option as well; especially if the number of people is low.
Just making sure the options are out there.
In person has its advantages, though I've found that face-to-face sessions usually degenerate into beer pong pretty quickly.
JinDesu 02-02-2010, 03:53 PM I can't imagine why a big group of rotards getting together would degenerate into beer pong. Btw, I can bring a few six packs if we want :ylsuper:
I'm going to assume that we'll have a pretty large group - especially if the NJ guys would like to get in on this. If so, I would consider your (MM) service to be more of the graduating lesson. Something we can (separately as desired) pursue after getting the whole she-bang from Kane. This way, we have a good hands-on background to depend on - it would make an online experience a lot easier on us.
I would love to know when your online seminars are separately from this thread - although I'm guessing whenever you update them you'll have a thread for that.
LOLZ - yeah it happens from time to time; as the NW folks can attest to.
Should we raffle off a free tune to include flashing - even if they don't have a flasher.... cause I have extras!
RX927 02-03-2010, 12:57 AM I would definitely be willing to chip in for a in person class. I can work my way around an Apexi PFC but would love to understand the ins and outs to the INTX and Cobb.
I will say this though, tuning is one of more experienced areas a car enthusiast learns. You really need to understand how everything works and reacts in different conditions through diagnosing, modifying, rebuilding, etc.
Just throwing out an idea. It might be too much but if this goes through it would be nice to have Kane tune someones car on a dyno as part of the class.
JinDesu 02-03-2010, 07:45 AM lol, if you want to we could, Kane.
@RX927 - Sinned suggested Dave @ KDR (in Pennsylvania), but I was unsure if people would want to travel out to PA. Although right now, it seems like we don't have too many people interested :(
In a perfect world tuning a car on the dyno would be an awesome final day for the course. It would just depend on what you guys want to do - I am easy either way.
RX8YA 02-03-2010, 10:40 AM I'm Interested count me in if we can get a few more to make it reasonable.
JinDesu 02-03-2010, 10:44 AM I'm guessing we'll need 8-10 people to make the cost reasonable, so for now it appears we have 3
kersh4w 02-03-2010, 01:54 PM really interested, let me sort out my finances, but i think this is definitely worth the money.
also dependent if i can crash at anyone's place. send me a PM if i can. i dont need more than couch. hell, i could actually work with less. haha.
JinDesu 02-03-2010, 02:45 PM Alrighty - we got 4!
I would definitely offer my place to you guys, except I live at home and I do not think my parents would approve =\
heyarnold69 02-03-2010, 03:03 PM when would this be?
When I am told! LOL
But it needs to be before March; cause I leave for a year at that time.
gregs 02-03-2010, 05:03 PM Kane what picture is in your avatar? i cant figure out the picture
It is a turbo on a land cruiser that we built in the desert.....out of spare parts. And a dive helmet and some camel toe.... HEHE

JinDesu 02-03-2010, 06:19 PM This would probably be next week, 13th/14th would looks best.
Airfare looks closer to $200 (based on Jet Blue).
Funny; I just flew my Father-In-Law from here to Las Vegas for $190....how is this ticket gonna cost more WTF?!?!
kersh4w 02-03-2010, 07:27 PM aaannddd count me out. my 2nd (replacement trans) just starting grinding. im probably selling my accessport. i have 0 plans to go turbo now.
JinDesu 02-03-2010, 09:27 PM It's 99 each way lol (well, 98, 97, close enough). Might be lower if I dig for deals.
Damn Kersh, I saw your other thread.. good luck dude =\
ssspeedfreak 02-04-2010, 07:24 AM I was setting up a Dyno day at Enzo's shop in Bayshore.... I wonder if he'll let us do this at the same time???? He's a tuner himself and I don't know how he would feel someone else in his house ya know. But we would have a shop and a brand new Dyno......
JinDesu 02-04-2010, 07:44 AM Dunno! But Kane doesn't need to stay at his place, lol - we can set Kane up at a local hotel.
Where is Bayshore btw?
ssspeedfreak 02-04-2010, 08:25 AM Suffolk about 30min from queens. It would be pretty cool we could somehow combine them. its just this damn cold i hate!!
Yeah the cold really sucks the fun out of most car things.... but it was 45 yesterday on my way back from the shop and my tune is just about done. Boosting like an animal on the freeway was frickin FUN!
Reminded me why we all do this stuff.
JinDesu 02-04-2010, 09:48 AM It would be great to combine both - 30 minutes from queens isn't that far.
TanyerRX 02-04-2010, 10:48 AM You can count me in. I'm down to check this class out. I'm not too car savy. so I would love to learn a few things about how my 8 works.
Based on my math you need 4 people or more to make it worth your while vs doing an online seminar thing.
If you can get a few Speed3-6's that would bump the numbers up....but you would lose the rotary only focus....maybe some 7's might be interested? :dunno:
JinDesu 02-04-2010, 11:14 AM Well, it'll have to be judged by who's interested. I personally don't know any Speed3 or Speed6 people :(
RIWWP 02-04-2010, 11:58 AM I'm interested. I'd be driving down where ever from RI, but worth it for the information if enough other people are on-board. Otherwise the online seminar is what I would do.
Driver mods > vehicle mods
Driver mods > vehicle mods
Classic!
DJ.NADA 02-04-2010, 01:18 PM Jindesu, count me in.....
JinDesu 02-04-2010, 01:24 PM Awesome! Alright so far we have:
RX8YA, RX927, TanyerRX, RIWWP, DJ.NADA, and myself. Speedfreak, I'm not sure how I can coordinate with you regarding the dyno-day. If I remember from your other post about it, your guy is doing it strictly for business right?
Do any of you guys have a place where we can room Kane? If not, I'll take a look for lodging so I can calculate the final costs.
heyarnold69 02-04-2010, 02:36 PM add me
Do any of you guys have a place where we can room Kane? If not, I'll take a look for lodging so I can calculate the final costs.
I heard there was a decent hotel there in NYC.... it was Four something..... Seasons I think - that should be pretty cheap :D::yesnod:
JinDesu 02-04-2010, 03:31 PM Alrighty - approximately 7 for now (this looks pretty good).
Kane - let's see if anyone would prefer to let you stay over for brownie points *cough cough*, but I'll also look for hotels that would make it easy for us to grab you lol. I actually haven't heard of Four Seasons, I'll take a look at that.
http://www.fourseasons.com/newyorkfs/
http://www.fourseasons.com/image_library/NYF/custom_sizes/NYF_131_400x320.jpg
I was being sarcastic... 855 bucks a night for a single.... HAH
All I need is a cot - some rum and diet coke and an ac adapter... air mattress gets extra brownie points.
JinDesu 02-04-2010, 03:49 PM Hah! I'll post up as much info as I can gather tonight on what it'll cost each of us.
treceb 02-04-2010, 05:05 PM u can add me as a possible. it all comes down to dates...
JinDesu 02-04-2010, 05:13 PM Again, I am aiming for the 13th/14th. Or we can do 14th/15th (if you guys have President's day off).
I just ordered some new cables and got my class edited; now I am pumped! LOL
Let's do this! Price change for awesomeness.... $360!!!! But you have to get me in and out in 48 hours.
So I can show up early Sat and Leave Sun evening; or whatever (Sun, Mon) - but I only want to spend one night in NY.... not that you guys are uncool or anything, but I need to get home to the family.
lepichichi 02-04-2010, 09:28 PM when and where i need to know asap to see if i can ditch work and my girlfriend :)
NYC Drift King 02-04-2010, 09:49 PM Pm me the cost per person. I will like to sit in on this class.
I am working hard to keep it well under $100 per person.
The more I think about it the more pumped I get to do this class.
DoubleGoose 02-04-2010, 10:19 PM im interested in being in...possibly tying to get FI in during the next couple weeks tho..we'll see how that goes.....
JinDesu 02-04-2010, 11:51 PM List so far: RX8YA, RX927, TanyerRX, RIWWP, DJ.NADA, heyarnold, and myself (maybe treceb, lepichichi. NYC Drift King, Doublegoose)
Kane - what's your nearest airport?
Does anyone have place with a garage where we can hang to do this? Please let me know.
Kane - I was planning for a come Sat-leave Sun thing, so don't worry about that :) Thanks a lot for reducing the rate to $360. So far, a high estimate is $200 for airfare, and $200 for a one night stay (again, HIGH. I've no doubt I can get it lower as I'm shopping around right now). So we have a grand total of $760, which we can bump to $800 for any additional costs that might come up.
So for now, at 7 people confirmed, it looks like $115 per person. 8 people would make it $100, 10 would be $80, etc.
I want the date to be settled at February 13th-14th. Unless people would prefer 14th-15th, which I would need you guys to let me know. Weekdays are bad for me (and I assume most people), so that is why I chose the next weekend.
As for the where - if someone can volunteer a garage/house for those two days, that'll be great. Otherwise, I'll beg a favor of a friend to do it at their house or something. But it would be best if someone has a place.
Kane - I can be your ride from the airport, to the hotel, and back etc.
DoubleGoose 02-05-2010, 12:07 AM weird thing is..weekends are bad for me lol. cuz i work on the weekends. weekdays would work better
TanyerRX 02-05-2010, 07:46 AM I work the 13 th but could probably work something out.
Sounds good man - my nearest airport is Newport News, VA.
RX8YA 02-05-2010, 09:22 AM Jin if its during the week you would have to count me out I could come for a day and definitely would. Think about this too thats valentines day weekend right if any of you have gf's and ditch them that might be your head lol.
RIWWP 02-05-2010, 09:24 AM Uh, crap. That's right. Kane, how much extra would you charge to completely eliminate Valentines day too?
My wife wouldn't forgive me being away that day. Sigh.
JinDesu 02-05-2010, 09:26 AM weird thing is..weekends are bad for me lol. cuz i work on the weekends. weekdays would work better
I work the 13 th but could probably work something out.

Alrighty! So let's try to figure out the most optimal day lol...
I realize that the 14th is Valentines Day, and it is also the Chinese New Year (Korean too, I believe). So yeah, it's tricky regardless.
What about 12th/13th? Kane could take an afternoon flight or so, we'll do an evening class and dinner (pizza, anyone?), and maybe another class on Sat before he goes back.

That would be ok with me. Might miss out on the dyno - but we can get a solid 4-5 hours in the evening if everyone is down for that.
All I need is some space and a big monitor or LCD tv or projector etc... I will bring all the cables; but I can't really bring my 32" LCD monitor.
RIWWP 02-05-2010, 09:33 AM 12th/13th would work for me.
ssspeedfreak 02-05-2010, 10:24 AM Awesome! Alright so far we have:

The Dyno would need to be on a Sat. let me talk to my tuner about everything because he's fine about the Dyno day but I have to tell him about the class and all. We could use his garage and all so that would take care of all that. We do have some snow coming here and its hard to set things like this up when people can't drive here in the stuff. As for Kane "if" we get this all figured out, He could stay at my house (baring wife's approval) and could come into and out of MacArthur airport. I would need to know who would be interested in using the dyno.
Let the wife know I am mostly housebroken.... :D:
By the Way, if your tuner bud is not feeling really pumped about this situation let me know; I am not trying to cramp anyone's style.
JinDesu 02-05-2010, 10:52 AM Speed - thanks for the info. The setup you described (pending your wife's approval) would be good for us. The snow is coming in this weekend, so I'll hope it goes away by next weekend. I don't know how many of us were also interested in doing the dyno - I was planning on doing a baseline of mine for future reference.
Please keep me updated on the Dyno day event - if we do 12th/13th, that would coincide with the Saturday (13th) that the Dyno day could occur.
So for the rest of you guys (RX8YA, RX927, TanyerRX, RIWWP, DJ.NADA, heyarnold), which of you want to include a dyno run?
And the maybes (treceb, lepichichi, NYC Drift King, Doublegoose) - is the date 12th/13th good or bad? Any other suggestions from you guys? The location is pretty much set for NYC/Long Island - the dyno shop is 30 minutes from Queens. Price looks to be maxed at $800 (ignoring dyno run costs).
RIWWP 02-05-2010, 10:59 AM Cost of Dyno run? I am not a fanatic about it yet, but if the price is low enough, it would be interesting to see where I am at.
Feras 02-05-2010, 11:03 AM is the dyno an AWD dyno, if so i may be enticed to come up and also learn something about tuning.
JinDesu 02-05-2010, 11:05 AM I'm not entirely clear on the cost of the dyno run - Speedfreak would have to clarify that.
I don't imagine our entire group would need to do it - I was just wondering if any one of us would. Speedfreak has other people discussing it in the LI forum I think.
is the dyno an AWD dyno, if so i may be enticed to come up and also learn something about tuning.
Quoting Speed from the LI forums:
I was thinking about setting up a dyno meet at my tuners shop. He just got a brand new 4 wheel drive dyno with over 2000whp capacity. So any car could come (but we love rotories of course). I still have to talk to him about it but its only going to make him money and maybe get some clients so I don't think he'll be against to it. When do you guys think would be a good time, date, and price per car?
ssspeedfreak 02-05-2010, 02:34 PM Dyno is $75 per car and it is a brand new 4 wheel drive dyno.
NYC Drift King 02-05-2010, 08:01 PM I'm to exhausted too read. Pm me the date and price when set up. I'm free on weekends only... =]
Clavius 02-06-2010, 01:33 AM I work the 13 th but could probably work something out.
I'd personally call in dead but that is just me :dunno:
Kinda annoyed I just found this thread now. Though I have sadly left the 8 world I still like to keep my knowledge up to par (or attempt to damnit!). Sadly loot and fixing the 240SX are sucking any form of extra cash outa me for a good road trip.
Whomeva goes to this I can honestly say are very lucky people.
JinDesu 02-06-2010, 09:22 AM NYC Drift King - I'll pm you as soon as I get all my information down.
I apologize that I can't choose dates that fit everyone, but if the rest of you can tell me if the 12th/13th is good or not, we can settle on that. So far only RIWWP has said a definite yes to those dates. For the people who said they can't do weekends, the Friday night would work for you guys. And for the people who can't do weekdays, the Saturday is good for you guys. Any other objections?
ssspeedfreak 02-06-2010, 03:20 PM Sorry to report my Tuner will not be ready in the amount of time we were thinking. He still has some cars he needs ready for the races that start in March. The only other shop I could think is Function7's spot, I will see what they say the only thing is no dyno. It was just to soon guys sorry. I'm still down to help with anything!
That is cool man - we really didn't need a dyno, it was just a nice to have.
So we still 12th - 13th?
JinDesu 02-06-2010, 07:29 PM For now, I'm pushing for the 12th/13th.
Speed, no problem dude. Would you still be willing to go to this class? Or were you just trying to tie this class and the dyno together?
ssspeedfreak 02-06-2010, 08:24 PM I would love to hang with you guys but I can't do the class because all my funds are tied up into my FI project right now and that's what I should be finishing up next weekend. It would have been so cool to put us all together!
JinDesu 02-06-2010, 08:36 PM You're 8 is going to be so awesome with that Esmiril turbo lol.. well, I'll definitely try to do your dyno thing whenever you reschedule it.
RX927 02-06-2010, 10:51 PM Wow i though this would be a few weeks from now.
If it could be pushed another week i could offer a two car garage at my house/52' plasma tv/ driveway for 6+ and im 5-10mins from the GWB.
JinDesu 02-06-2010, 11:26 PM Hm - I don't mind pushing it back a week, but I won't be around lol.
So if enough people agree, I'll set it up to be the weekend of the 19/20 or 20/21.
I have to sign into work on the 20th, so we would have to do the 21st if not this upcoming weekend.
JinDesu 02-06-2010, 11:41 PM Gotcha, I knew there was a reason I chose the upcoming weekend lol.
RX927 02-07-2010, 11:49 AM Is it possible to do it the weekend after that then?
27th 28th?
Gives ample time to make arrangements and if were lucky warmer weather.
Sorry, I'm deploying that weekend...
it's gotta be this Friday and Sat or see if Jeff can run a web seminar for you guys.... or wait a year... LOLZ
RX927 02-07-2010, 06:37 PM Yea guys your going to have to count me out. This upcoming weekend have to many things planned.
Props to kane and Jindesu for setting this up.
JinDesu 02-07-2010, 08:12 PM Gotcha - sorry you can't come by. I'll be pming the rest of you guys tonight.
ssspeedfreak 02-08-2010, 11:50 AM So whats the plan?
Good question.
I guess Jin was waiting for the hard confirms from his PM last night.
JinDesu 02-09-2010, 09:48 AM I'm still pm'ing. I was out all of yesterday, and had no access to the forums. I'll update whenever I can.
JinDesu 02-09-2010, 10:18 AM UPDATE:
So far I have two person confirmed, one person declined, and 2 other people replied to. The remaining 4 are unaccounted for. I will take today to wait for responses and answer questions. By tomorrow, if I do not have more than 5 people (myself included), I will cancel it for this weekend and push for the 21st. I have spoken to Kane about it, and he is fine with this proposal.
For those who read this thread: The current situation for the 12th/13th is this:
Cost: $720 total - split amongst those who attend (5 people attending is $144 per person).
Location: Queens, NY. Probably a hotel near La Guardia or J.F.K. so we can get parking space and a conference room.
Time: 7pm on Friday the 12th. This is to allow people to get off work at 5pm to get to the place. We can work on this.
JinDesu 02-10-2010, 07:58 AM Alright - due to the low interest for this weekend, I will push it to the 21st. I will update more information later today when I figure it all out.
Given the weather, probably not a bad idea.
We shall see.
RIWWP 02-10-2010, 02:07 PM Thanks for pushing it back. This was pretty much my drop dead date for saying "if no further info, I'm backing out"
Also, only 5 people pushes the price past the webinar from MM, when you count in gas for me. The break-even point is about $120 a person, or 6 people. Possibly less money more people due to southern CT and NY gas prices.
If this happens, I will need a place to crash overnight. It's ~3hrs from Providence. Don't need anything fancy, even just an empty spot on the floor will work. I'd willingly sleep in my 8 if the weather was warmer :)
JinDesu 02-11-2010, 09:41 AM Alright - I'm trying to see if I can get in touch with RX927 to see if he is interested and would let us use his place.
If so, we can cut down on the hotel bill and make it even cheaper for all of us.
I am thinking of canceling this.
This is my last weekend free, and the lack of interest is motivating me to pull the plug and have you guys do the MM seminar... I don't want to leave this weekend open if the tuning class get's canceled last minute.
If we don't have enough confirms by Monday then I'm gonna say this is a no go.
JinDesu 02-12-2010, 06:57 PM Gotcha - I understand. As far as I can tell, most everyone else is still a maybe. Only the two who had confirmed to me seem to be definite regardless. I can't really vouch for much more =\
Werd man - not trying to be a prick - but I'd rather set up some other stuff IF we can't get the people for this.
Let's see how it goes.
JinDesu 02-12-2010, 07:37 PM Roger that. I'll set the deadline earlier this time. I.e. Monday. I'll pm everyone again tomorrow and Sunday.
JinDesu 02-16-2010, 06:46 AM Alright - I am officially canceling this. The guys who were interested - please check out MM's web seminar thread in the engine tuning forum. Thanks!
stinksause 02-17-2010, 05:08 PM Alright - I am officially canceling this. The guys who were interested - please check out MM's web seminar thread in the engine tuning forum. Thanks!
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooooo...
i just found this nd would have def gone :(
RX8YA 02-17-2010, 05:15 PM ^ Thanks for Trying Jin wish Kane had more time I would have paid some extra monies for him to help me with my FI setup lol seeing as its basically the same as his.... Well im sure when Kane gets back he will have the rotary itch again and maybe we can set something up.
Sorry guys.... not enough days in the month sometimes.
^ Thanks for Trying Jin wish Kane had more time I would have paid some extra monies for him to help me with my FI setup lol seeing as its basically the same as his.... Well im sure when Kane gets back he will have the rotary itch again and maybe we can set something up.
Sure thing!
stinksause 05-22-2011, 10:30 PM bump in hope this may happen again
Juansito 05-23-2011, 08:55 AM WOW! Im down for this!
Learn + ill pay from him to tune my car!
I'm still down. I think 4 guys would make the cost low enough to be worth while.
L337fpc 05-23-2011, 01:23 PM i'd love to join in, so who is going to step up and get this rolling?
Juansito 05-24-2011, 04:34 AM Put me down for sure no excuses!
stinksause 05-25-2011, 12:29 PM okay so we have
1. stinksause
2. L337fpc
3. Juansito
only thing is that I am flying out this Friday and coming back Aug 15th .... lets aim for 2nd half of august?
L337fpc 05-25-2011, 12:31 PM middle of august works for me, i'll be back from vacation and school hasn't started up by then.
I think I can do August as well.
Juansito 05-25-2011, 02:17 PM Depends on when in August -- I'm going on vacation around the start of the month
stinksause 05-25-2011, 10:05 PM def after aug 15th
tentative: 19th - 20th
how does that sound?
Should be good for me. Once we lock it in then I can put in for time off work.
iemdan 06-02-2011, 10:07 AM where is this intended to take place? nyc, or ny state? is the cost of $500 plus expenses per person, or flat rate for as many students as there are to sign up for this?
$500 plus expenses total, divide how you guys want to.
I am not sure where it would be held at, I am open to suggestions.

ok that sounds much more reasonable than my assumption of per head cost. whoever is taking the initiative to set this up, determine a location since i think that will have greatest influence than a few bucks here and there.
nycgps 06-03-2011, 10:10 AM I should be able to do Mid-August. count me in !
TeamRX8 06-04-2011, 10:56 AM I'm interested depending on the location, or we can work something out for a personal session less most of the basic classwork
Juansito 06-04-2011, 11:22 AM Well before jin said we could rent a conferences room or something.
I'm interested depending on the location, or we can work something out for a personal session less most of the basic classwork
Location would be somewhere in NY.
If you can't do it then let me know and we can work something else out since I remember something about you being in TX.
nycgps 06-04-2011, 07:39 PM how many days will this take I wonder. we can probably get Kane a nice hotel to stay that has a small conference room, cuz I'm sure some hotel will let you use it for free.

Good idea.
Thinking 2 days would be perfect. 3 would be good if you wanted to get more than 1-2 car's on the dyno.

have a relocation to upstate NY pending
nycgps 06-04-2011, 09:05 PM if we're doing this and get a hotel, someone should get the money and order the hotel. NYC hotel is not cheap (anywhere), especially the one that has a conference room that doesn't look like shit.
and the sooner we book, the better price we get. I rather the money goes to Kane than giving it to the hotel, correct ? :)
Me too.... LOL
Also a hotel with a business section where they have the ability to project a screen would be nice. If not I'll have to get a projector and bring it with me.
nycgps 06-04-2011, 10:32 PM I have a list here, most of them are in the city --- couple are in queens (I assume that's probably closer to where most people lives EXCEPT team ... lol)
well, I guess I will start calling hotels next week and see which one has a projector.
Juansito 06-05-2011, 12:46 AM Yea lets get this rollin!
I call dibs on one of those 1-2 cars on the dyno!
Do we have final dates yet?
nycgps 06-07-2011, 11:05 AM Not yet but does aug 23 to 26 sounds good for every one? It's Monday thru Thursday. Reason? Cheaper hotels!
If not, how about the weekend before that? Which is 18- 22.
Reason? Cuz I am afraid some ppl here is in college right now and School probably starts around that time.
If no one is in college, then we can push the date a bit later, end of aug or early sept will have lower hotel prices.
colombian8 06-07-2011, 12:03 PM i would like to be included in this and would be willing to go up NY since im in MD I would like to know the total cost per person first though.
colombian8 06-07-2011, 12:19 PM I wouldnt mind driving up to VA one weekend to get this class well but again i would like to know final cost prior to agreeing to everything.
Those days work for me.
Columbian8, we can stop by and pick you up if you're on the way to NYC, I am thinking driving my car would be a worthwhile gig, maybe throw mine on the dyno too...
nycgps 06-07-2011, 10:34 PM I should be "OK" in the 2nd half of August.
As for the "cost",
- I guess we need to wait for everybody to "agreed" to date
- then I'll start looking at the hotel, find one @ a reasonable cost, get back to everyone,
- pay up, make a money pool out of it, Either give Kane all the money, or Pay 500 to him first, then minus some as expenses (hotel, Kane's food, etc), whatever left will be returned to everybody.
So someone have to be the "money collector"
I don't mind to be that guy, if u guys "trust" me. no hard feelings here, anybody would work. just wanna get this going. Don't want to hold Kane for too long.
colombian8 06-08-2011, 12:36 AM Im cool with any weekend. Im down to meet up anywhere really. I am close to 95 if thats the route your taking.
Juansito 06-15-2011, 07:39 PM im down for those dates 2
If anything i can paypal kane my money directly and he can pick where he wants to stay and get the hotel in his name...if not ill give the collector the money.
Just need to know how much :)
So who in NY is running this train?
colombian8 06-17-2011, 11:37 AM Im not sure who is running the train... Im willing to go up to VA if this falls through and its ok with you kane.
stinksause 06-18-2011, 04:45 AM I would be runnning this train if I wasn't in Germany at the moment. Francesco, can you take over? I am getting back aug 15th
TeamRX8 06-19-2011, 07:19 AM I'll officially be in upstate NY in early July, so I'm either willing to contribute more to have my car serve as a tuning vehicle, otherwise I will locate a dyno shop and hire you solo just because it will take me longer to do it myself and I don't have the luxury of time on my side ....
Well the tuning process is for educational purposes as part of the training, so I'd hate to see you have to pay extra to bring me back there. I think one way or the other well get it done. Even if I have to stay en extra day, but I think most folks would be cool with your car being one of the demo cars. I'd like to do one NA and one FI.
TeamRX8 06-19-2011, 08:23 AM Hence my preference for us to do something solo together.
TeamRX8 06-19-2011, 09:18 AM Found a Mustang dyno shop
http://www.mohawkvalleyhub.com/fredjacobsauto/index.html
half way between Syracuse or Albany, choose your airport ....
colombian8 06-20-2011, 10:30 AM My car has no mods in it.
L337fpc 06-20-2011, 10:34 AM where in NY is best for everyone or PA?
I dont mind the drive but if im driving 5 hours to learn how to tune my car, id want a piece of dyno time.
Kane,
What format is your tuning lessons? Is it just slideshows and what have you...or is it a mix of handson on the dyno? One day, two days (one day NA, seconds day FI).
Lets get this started so that Kane can get his flight since prices for flights are only going to go up.
nycgps 06-23-2011, 07:05 AM I can collect all the money and send it over to Kane.
but now I just need to know who is really, REALLY committed to this.
This is the only way we will know how much we need to chip in.
L337fpc 06-23-2011, 07:07 AM Stinksauce and myself are in 100%. I want to start tweaking my own tunes with my data from track days.
The training is a combo of classroom instruction and hands on.
We go over all the tuning stuffs to ensure everyone is on the same page, then we street and dyno tune some cars.
In total, we would need two days to do it right, but we could squish it into one really long day, like 9 am to 6 pm or so assuming the dyno operator will cooperate.
TeamRX8 06-25-2011, 05:17 PM well my relocation plans along with my job got canned this past week, so I'm out wrt this thread
I will PM you about a possible DFW trip once my situation settles, pretty sure we can get the Cobb/Plano dyno without any issue
stinksause 06-25-2011, 06:23 PM sorry to hear that ... it woulda been cool to meet u

Sounds good man, I have family in Texas so I have a place to crash there in Dallas.
nycgps 07-05-2011, 12:09 AM Damn I've been pretty busy and I almost forgot about this.
so whoever is in, Add your name to the list cuz we gotta discuss how to make this work.
