Pre-Ordering or Waiting?

Just curious as to how many people are going through with the preorder, how many are waiting till it's on the show room floor to decide, and how many just don't know

Wait it out

I really feel the need to wait until the cars arrive and take it for a drive. Even with a refundable deposit, I need to get first hand experience before I can make that commitment.

Overall, I am pleased with what we have seen in the pics and heard from 1st hand accounts at the shows.

The biggest disappointment have been reports of dealer gouging already on this car. Someone reported in another thread up to $4000 dealer markup! No one reading or participating on this forum should work with these dealers. I would consider most everyone here more educated about this car than the general public, and should use that knowledge wisely. And if you overhear anyone saying they are paying more than MSRP for this car, tell them where to go to get a better deal. They should appreciate your interest and information. This may also get the attention of these gouging dealers.

Sorry for the ranting.

already pre-ordered. and i cant stress this enough. if you are considering the pre-order don't talk to the regular sales guys. they will try to sell you one from their stock allocation and try to charge over msrp. when you get to a dealer ask to talk to the internet sales director or manager whatever they cal him'her at that dealer. he/she is the only one that will give you the straight scoop and also the only one that will make sure you have an actual order in to mazda. the other folks are just going to try to screw you!

That would be me, and that would be Mazda of Wayne, New Jersey. I laughed in the guys face and then proceeded to talk to two other dealers eager to sell me RX-8's at MSRP. Needless to say, Mazda Customer Service got a little ring from me about the goings on in Wayne.

Waiting

I work for a company that is owned by the WPP group who also own a large part of ford. They give discounts to us on ford cards which includes mazda. I am waiting after the car is released so I can make sure I get my discount. As preordering has a set price or so it seems. Plus dont have cash yet.

Just confirmed my preorder at MSRP with $500 refundable deposit. The dealer had an initial allocation of 3 cars, and he ordered one to my specs without even asking for the deposit! I emailed him with my specs and a note that I was ready to put down a deposit, and he ordered it already even before I came in to see him. He just told me to drop by this week to secure ownership with the deposit.

This dealer (World Car Mazda in San Antonio) also provides a 10yr/125K mile powertrain warranty on every car they sell.

This dealership provided a pleasing contrast to the one down the road, which threw around 'fair market value' a lot and said they'd have vehicles in March!

Bottom line, I'll have my fully loaded (with nav) Titanium/Chaparral 6-speed engineering masterpiece in June! Woo-Hoo!

I was planing on ordering one and getting it late summer or ... early fall ... or next year ... depending on my 12.5 old car's durability to survive and my cash flow - but last Friday, I was #4 in a 6 car accident and mine was the only car that had to be towed away...

So now it looks like I'm getting a Protege5 ... and plane on trading up to the RX-8

World Car Mazda in San Antonio has the Mazdaspeed Protege, in case you want a little extra performance to hold you over

Got my order in and deposit made this morning. Titanium, black/brownish-orangish-tannish interior, 6-speed, and the Grand Touring Package. I was #5 out of the 7 allocated for the June-Aug delivery.

Waiting it out...

I already have my sights fixed on buying the car. I just don't feel the need to have my local Mazda Dealer keeping my $500 until the car arrives. I have no worries on not getting the car right away since I opted to get the Nav, which supposedly coming in the second batch.

My 2004 RX-8 Titanium w/Black Cloth, 6MT, Touring Package w/Nav... will be my Birthday gift to my self this summer! :D
As I can say this will be the first car I will ever own.

I'm new to this forum but I've been reading the good info provided here since Dec '01. Why I never posted I dunno. It will be a great year now that the 8 is on it's way!
