greddy intercooler size??

greddy intercooler size??

does anyone know the size of the greddy intercooler? I'm looking to get a bigger better intercooler than what comes with the kit and I assume I have found one via the good info of 05rex8. Any thoughts or comments on the choices here. The link below is what i'm thinking of going with. Also i'll have the MS intake with the turbo and thats my major concern for fitment.

Core length/height/thickness.
end to end length.
inlet and outlet size.

Unfortunately, I dont have the greddy at the house to measure.

i was thinking more like 28x6.5x2.5 (godspeed M styles) for the greddy unit. Really my biggest concern with with fitment is the inlet and outlet size mating to the stock couplers. I plan to cut down the mounts for the MS intake giving and extra half inch or so and create custom brackets for the FMIC. Also pretty damn sure i'll need to take out a few large chunks of the front bumper innards.

that intercooler will be perfect for the job - couplers will be a little loose but should still work.
Just been through this exercise myself . I got a 24x12x3 (core size) and found it blocked off too much air to the rad. and caused an overheating issue . 10" is about spot on to give you some flow underneath while allowing fitment of the air filter up top .

the stock Greddy is 600x200x70 with 60mm pipes

damn goood info B, I just read your thread. But now what am I supposed to do I want the ultra large super fat uncle ben look. I GOT MOAR POWA!!

So what size is the inet and outlet??

I actually ordered a 600x270x76 with 60mm tubes but got the above with 76mm tubes .
They f'd up the order so sent me some reducing couplers for free to match the stock setup.
Wish I had sent it back now and gone for a smaller one .

Not to disagree completely, but I am not sure that the size of the intercooler is as much a problem as the flows (both external and internal) through it. I dont know what bumper cover you have in front, but I fully expect that I will have no over heating issues with my MS bumper cover (huge opening in front and I have removed that ugly black plastic thing that holds the front licence.) Also, not all ic cores are the same; some flow poorly in both orthogonal directions.

The other thing to consider is what kind of flow you can get behind the radiator as well. Case in point is that simply cutting some of the wheel well cover behind the oil coolers drops temps significantly. I have removed all the crap above (behind) my radiator with the hopes of developing some ducting to improve flow.

Nevertheless, all this is moot unless you are flowing upwards of 40lbs/min air. Below that, it is unlikely that the greddy ic is very restrictive.

Don't disagree at all . The stock greddy intercooler actually looks like a design that flows very well for its size . So a cheap aftermarket one probably needs to be quite a bit bigger to be much of an improvement .
The other thing I would point out is that I only noticed overheating at the track - it was fine for the street . The track really puts your complete system to the test , so if you don't track your car any weaknesses may never show up .

So I decided to go with a godspeed Type-WX 30X9X3 with 2.75" inlet and outlet. I thought about the Type-WX 30X10X3 but the inlet was 2.25". I figured the larger inlets would help offset the 1" smaller height and both have a 24" core lenght any thoughts? Also FYI i'll be running a BNR upgrade...

call me dumb but I'm thinking the if the top of the cooler is hidden by the bumper and support bar it's not going to be as effective as it's tall design. With the larger in and out air goes with less restriction no? The 2.25" inlet is smaller than the Greddy piping right?*i hope so anyway* If you weren't half way around the world i'd send it to you for testing as i'm not going to need it for a couple more mths.

True - but at elevated maf you want less resistance to flow and that one you picked may not flow much better than a greddy (could be wrong) .

don't think that will make any difference - remember you only have a 50mm tube running to the IC so the IC inlets would need to be smaller than that to be a restriction. .

So how are you all mounting these? Im looking at the type C one. (Im not doing it for gains, mine just looks like ****.) They dont have the little mounting bracket like the Greddy does. Are you just using the pipes to hold it? I have mine tilted forward because I modified the AEM intake so I need it to be the same size or slightly less. Thanks for the help!
