Just wanted to throw this out there:

How do you shift? Are you an auditory shifter, a tactile shifter or a visual shifter?

Are you a combination of any of the above or all of the above?

- Auditory Shifters listen for the revs and shift accordingly

- Visual Shifters keep an eye on the RPM at all times (or watch for the shift light) and shift accordingly

- Tactile Shifters will feel the appropriate time to shift through thier pedals or steering wheel.

I find that I flow through all of the above types fairly regularly depending on my driving style at the time.

When i feel like loud music, its too hard to hear the engine, so i will rely on Tactile or Visual stimuls to let me know it's time to shift.
When I am driving hard I may want to push it as far as i can so i will watch for it, and when I have the stereo off and the windows and roof open i love to listen to the sound of my own engine :) and will usually shift according to the tones.

i use all three ways, getting on the freeway i wait for the beep to shift, when i cruise i just feel for it, and when im on teh twisties i look at my gauge

I use all three i supose. when its cold out, i watch the tach like a hawk. once its warmer and smoother, i go by feel. when im really on it, i wait for the beep, or the limiter. lol. lately, when i do give it, i feqeuently seem to find the limiter before i get off the throttle and the clutch in. i've fallen out of the habbit of beating on my car and when to shift has gone by the wayside it seems.

shifting is for noobs :D my engine can go up to 30,000 rpm at 220 km/h no problem. who needs to shift =)

the only shift indicator i know of is the beep once you get close to 8500-9000 rpm

Depends. With the torque peak below redline, I find myself shifting well before 9000 rpm, unless I want everyone to notice that I'm trying to jump into hyperspace.

Hmm. I tend to shift by speed. Getting on a highway, I'm probably rolling onto the ramp in third. I can take third to over 80 so I basically get up to a healthy speed and then shift over into 6th. From a light, I tend to shift out of first early - maybe 5k rpms. I goes easy first to second. Don't need to leave too much of my tires on the street. I'll stretch second sometimes but that can take you right up to cruising speed on most streets.

And then there's the fun stuff...

I typically use the speedometer, as well as tach and feel and everything else.
but.. one time I changed it from km to mph and found it was a lot harder to know when to shift, or what gear to go into lol.
