ok so bottom line is if you sign up for this program before your car has 75,000 miles and you use their oil and change it every 3,000 miles, they will pay for any repair or replacement of your engine up to 300,000 miles (for the full synthetic). here are all the limitations:

now... nothing in here says anything about having a rotary... :suspect:

Sounds like it would work but you'd have to have the car completely stock. I'd imagine if you've changed anything (within reason) that they'd disqualify it. I'd imagine they wouldn't be assholes about different floor mats but something as small as a short shifter could disqualify you.

With all the stuff I have installed, I'd imagine it would be a waste of time for me to even think about trying that.

I think one of these "marketing" guarantees where they find one little thing and disqualify the owner.

IMO, this is no different than that crap from GM where you can return a new vehicle purchase if you don't like it. Of course they are going to find any little reason possible to deny a claim if you were to make one. They are just trying to get you to buy their product. Nothing more, nothing less.

Anyway, for the 300k coverage, you have to use synthetic which you shouldn't be using for a rotary.

That's quite a claim to be making on these forums. I'd say that the synthetic argument is inconclusive at best. Though, if you're going only by the manual and ignoring any real data, then yes, synthetic should not be used.

well if you use their synthetic blend (which is what i use and thats how i found out about this) they guarantee you for 225,000. if you use their conventional, they guarantee you for 150,000.

OK, I should have said according to the manual don't use synthetic.

I actually didn't know they made a synthetic specifically for the Renesis.

Yeah but if you use synthetic and something is wrong with the engine, Valvoline will just refer to the manual and say you shouldn't have used synthetic...

yeah but then you could direct them to any number of the synthetic vs conventional threads ahahah. their lawyer would blow a gasket lololol

there's gotta be someone who plans on keeping their 8 stock that would like a free engine

Ok well, I decided to sign up for this program thanks to the link in this thread. I decided to use Valvoline before I knew about the program and just had the first oil change done last week. Here's how that went: I specificaly asked for Vavoline full syn 5-20, the guy says no problem. When I'm paying for it after it's done I notice it says conventional Valv was used.
When I asked him about it he said "yeah we're not allowed to use syn in the rx8" I got pissed and went and talked to the sales mgr that sold me the car, that also said it was fine to use syn in the engine!
Anyway, to shorten this story up he called the service guy and argued with him for a while and they ended up agreeing that syn was not recomended but it could be used. I decided to stick with conventional until reading about this guarantee. I figured why not use the syn if they'll cover the engine for 300,000 miles.

So anway, today I signed up for the program but decided to call the good people at Valvoline first to make sure they would cover the engine if I used the syn.
The guy told me that the rotary engine will actually consume more oil using synthetic and therefor they will not cover it. Good enough for me, why not get a 2nd party guaranteeing my engine for 150,000 miles using the coventional..

The only pain in the ass about all this is that you have to keep all receipts showing that Valvoline was used and any warranty work done. And also you have to go in and update your account after every oil change.

I just found out that if you take your car to a Valvoline instant oil change place, they will automaticaly update your account and you don't need to keep any receipts.

But they said they dont cover rotary engines, right?

rxwarrior

No, they said they don't cover the rotary if you use the synthetic. You can still be covered for 150,000 if you use the conventional.

I'm sorry but how the FUCK does it consume more oil being synthetic? If anything synthetic has a higher flash point so it will burn LESS and thus last longer then conventional.

With that said, how the FUCK does it consume more oil again? Do they or anyone have ANY idea how the metering oil pump works.. wow.. the freaking idiots we have working on cars today.

I don't know I'm just repeating what the guy at Valvoline told me. The freakin Mazda dealer service guy that I talked to last week even told me that synthetic oil "burns" the apex seals. LOL
I'm sorry but I've looked in my manual several times now and I can't see where it even states that synthetic isn't recomended. It just says to use a 5-20 energy conserving oil.
You should call up Vavoline and argue with them. I'd love to use thier synthetic if they'd cover my engine for the 300,000!

Ok, you guys are not hearing me. I don't believe the whole "don't use synthetic in the rx8" crap. I only highlighted what the Valvoline guy told me about why they wouldn't guarantee the rotary if you used the synthetic. (just in case you didn't want to read the whole post)
Why are you guys so defensive about using your synthetics? Coventional/synthetic....doesn't make that much difference to me. That's why I'll use what they say they will cover.
Oh, and I plan to keep the 8 at stock performance too. lol

so... i was reading this Guarantee form and came across this...

"The failure of any Covered Engine Part that is related to any pending legal proceeding or recall or for which the manufacturer has announced its responsibility by any means, is excluded from coverage under this Limited Warranty."

I read this as, since mazda has already admitted to having issues with their engines failing then this warranty will not be upheld. Although I could be wrong, but that is how I read it.

There is always a catch. They know they will never pay under this warranty so for them it's pure marketing with no risk of ever actually having to pay for anything.

Ok, I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but this is nothing more than a marketing gimmick. When/If your engine fails within the slotted "Guarantee" period, you will need to prove that your engine failed do to inadequate lubrication caused directly by the Valvoline oil. If your apex seal shatters, good luck convincing Valvoline it wasn't caused by so called "aggressive driving" or improper maintenance. Then, if you show them it happens even with other oils and oil weights, they will tell you it's a manufacturer defect and to call Mazda. There is a slim to none chance that your engine fails and it can be traced directly back to the engine oil. Why else would they make this statement knowing damn well that engines fail prior to 150,000 miles.

Not that big of a deal guys. I had already decided to use Valvoline before I even lnew about the guarantee. If you're already using the product, why in the hell wouldn't you sign up.

Tell me one thing though about your choice to use synthetic oil. What is the advantage for you, since most everyone agrees that you should change the oil in the rotary every 3000 miles. I thought the biggest advantage for syn in most cars was that you could go 5-6000 miles between changes.

For the most part, I personally think you should only run synthetic if you are running the SOHN adapter. Motor oil is not designed to burn cleanly the way 2 stroke is. But if you are dead set on not running the SOHN then synthetic motor oil is better than dino oil (overall). It's base will not break down as quickly (or ever) whereas dino oil will break down very quickly. If you are the type to change your oil every 2500 miles then a good Dino oil is fine or if cost is not an issue then use a good synthetic.

But, either way doing regular oil analysis will tell how you roil is doing and then you can make adjustments as you go.
