View Full Version : only lower the front of the car
li2eggie 09-19-2009, 11:00 AM i saw pics of lowered rx8s and i dont like how the back drops...it looks lower than the front. is there anyone out there that only lowered the front of the car? or are there nice springs out there that doesnt drop the back as much as the front if so...how does it ride? look? setup?
my first car was an rsx and i had a good setup where the front is lower and like the look just wondering how it will look on an 8
li2eggie 09-19-2009, 11:12 AM more pics
IIRC most drops DO drop the from more than the rear, or at the very least drop the front more...
Also, I think the front already sits a bit lower than the rear from the factory... I would not recomend only modifying the front, I think it would screw up the ride and handling qualities, and look pretty goofy... Get some adjustable coilovers and you can set the stance exactly how you want it.
why dont you start showing rx8 photos frist not rsx

He is just trying to give an idea of the stance he is trying to achieve. Only problem is that the RSX shape gives the illusion of a stronger suspension rake than it actually has...

The Tein basics are a nice affordable option.
Why the aversion to coilovers? You could go with a spring/strut combo, but you wont get the height adjustment you are after and you will get much less consistent results as far as performance.
c41250n 09-19-2009, 03:53 PM i wouldn't just lower the front. it will offset handling of the car.
bassy 09-19-2009, 05:41 PM Get the Tein H-Techs, not S-Techs. IIRC, the H-Techs will lower 1.2" in the front and only 0.8" in the rear. The rear will drop so little that it looks almost like stock height. But then, that's exactly what will give it a forward-rake look, which you (and I) prefer.
(Just ignore the rusty rotors...hahah)

J8635621 09-19-2009, 05:43 PM H-techs are not .8" in the rear. They are like .8 front and .3 rear. The s-techs are 1.4 front .7 rear.

I just checked Tein's website. You got the S-Tech specs correct. However, the H-Tech specs are -1.0" (-26mm) front and -0.3" (-8mm) rear.

J8635621 09-19-2009, 05:59 PM Just saying that you gave the specs of S-techs when you say h-techs. I got mazdaspeed springs (.8" all around) and my rears sit almost right, but the front is about 2 finger widths too tall. I'd say the s-techs would be pretty close to perfect.
ZachLegend 09-19-2009, 06:55 PM most springs are lower in the front. my H&R sports lowered the front A LOT more than the rear
ZachLegend 09-19-2009, 06:56 PM why dont you start showing rx8 photos frist not rsx
Calm down :uhh:

This thread is useless and stupid :yesnod:!! Theres a thing called the search button on this forum lol. There are many threads on this forum that people have posted about lowering spring and coilovers. Yes there are rx8' springs such as the tanabe gf210 and the tanabe nf210 that make the back look lower than the front. The tein s-tech give the car a nice even drop or fuck it just buy coilovers so you can have more adjustability in height and dampening and rebound.
mkmike103 09-19-2009, 07:59 PM My front lowered much more than the rear (in my opinion). Megan Racing springs on OEM shocks:

J8635621 09-19-2009, 09:21 PM Holy hell. Are you sure you didn't do something wrong? So those are 1.75" drop in front and 1.5" drop in rear? That is far less than 1.5" in the back. Did you put your rear sway bar on wrong, causing it to catch on something? I know that happened to me and it bent an endlink.
thejew89 09-19-2009, 11:35 PM i just went with coilovers i didnt like the stance of the s techs and now my car sits like this

yeah i have s techs and i wanted it a little lower but for a daily car its perfect

MazdaEight 09-20-2009, 12:07 AM S. Techs are the way to go if you don't want to buy coilovers IMO.
If you preload correctly, then it will sit nice. My cars stance is very close to
thejew89's.
@!!narotordo 09-20-2009, 12:18 AM get tein s-techs
More like Tein basic coilovers!

Hmm, I dont think I did. I guess I would have to look--how could you put the rear sway bar on wrong anyhow?
When you bent an endlink did you notice your rear not sitting properly?

rodjonathan 10-01-2009, 10:34 PM i like the stechs but will be doing coilovers soon
Ross_Dawg 10-02-2009, 01:36 AM ^really? I hate the stechs... waaaaayyyy to soft. Cant wait to coilovers myself :fingersx:

I don't remember how I did it wrong exactly, but the end link hung on another part of the car and caused it to sit super high like your picture. I realized something was wrong .2 seconds after letting the jack down, but it still bent the endlink pretty good. Is that what the other cars running Megan springs looks like?
Ross_Dawg 10-02-2009, 10:50 AM No, we installed a set of megans on Red_Fox's car and its very low in the rear

You sure you didnt accidently put them on backwards or anything? Your front drop seems excessive and rear drop seems minimal...
I put sprint springs on my car and the rear tires are tucking slightly, and the fronts are slightly taller than yours. And the sprint springs drop more agressively than the megans...
J8635621 10-02-2009, 02:58 PM Does it feel weird driving it around like that? Does it feel like you will slide into the steering wheel lol? Seriously though, something is wrong.
Dhiim 02-02-2012, 02:33 PM How much inches you lower it?
