View Full Version : RX8 issues :(
Renesisgrl 09-17-2009, 10:45 AM Hey, I bought my car in April and waited 2 months to get it shipped to me. Anyhow I have had it for 2.5 months and am not to sure if my issues are normal 8 "behavior" or if there is something wrong with it.:suspect:
If I let it warm up then drive a short distance, under 5 miles turn it off and then try to start it back up it will just keep cranking over. Is this normal???
the other thing is if it is sitting idle the exhaust will sputter...I just dont know. I took it to the dealership and they said it was fine and everything was normal.
Today it started beeping at me, i had the key in the ignition and it beeped five times and then stopped...never did that before either.
Please help!
The only mods that are on it is aftermarket pulleys...I think
rodjonathan 09-17-2009, 10:47 AM ok the starting and stopping issue is called flooding you NEED to let it warm up before you turn it off again! the beeping might be the tpms are any lights on? and THIRDLY search button my friend use it
What year? Did you buy it used or new?
Lot's of detailed info here when you start to search the threads... but you are going to be looking for coils, spark plugs, starter ... at least for now.
If you have an 04 (and maybe 05) you are more likely to suffer from these ailments. And it depends on how many miles are on the car.
josuar88 09-17-2009, 10:49 AM Well the problem with the starting is that you flooded the engine. These cars do not like to be turned on then shut off they need to be warmed up first if not you flood them and well they don't start if you read your owners manual you would see this is a problem they know about and it tells you how to fix it yourself. I'm not sure about you other issues though.Hope this helps.

I dunno... warmed up and then going 5 miles should be plenty to not flood it. Sounds more like hot start issue.... :dunno:

^^ I have tried that...
I have read the users manual and google searched ETC. and tried everything suggested for engine flooding.
The car is an 05 with about 70k miles, bought it certified used.

missed the warm up part yes 5 miles should be plenty even if you take it easy and dont push it ... my bad
Easy_E1 09-17-2009, 12:08 PM And driving it nearly five miles is sufficient to warm the car up it will not be prone to flooding. So I think flooding is not an issue.
How do you drive the car? Spirited? Hit the RPM redline?
Might be time for a compression test and possibly a de-carb.
May need a new engine. You have a 100,000 mile warranty on the engine.
I concur. Ignition, then Seafoam, then Compression Test just to be safe.
Celronx 09-17-2009, 12:28 PM Also check the starter and battery....If it doesn't have the upgraded starter or a weak battery, that could be the issue.
Renesisgrl 09-18-2009, 02:50 AM Thank you guys....I am going to book an appt with the dealership and get all that^^ done.
I was also wondering if the weather could affect it...I bought it in Texas and had it shipped to Germany. The climate is SO diffrent that it makes me wonder if the plugs, wire etc. need to be changed.
Huey52 09-18-2009, 07:07 AM To give yourself a known-good baseline, changing out the ignition components would be the best place to start ('plugs, coils and cables).
With that variable eliminated, if necessary you can move on to de-carbon, compression, etc.

shodan 09-18-2009, 07:31 AM I found out that turning ignition at 3k rpm even when car is warm makes wonders.
When i shut down mine at idle speed it take a while of cranking to start it back up, but when u rev before, it starts right away :)
TeamRX8 09-18-2009, 09:22 PM please don't start switching out parts just because people here tell you too ... :-/
you won't have any issue shutting an 05 off without any warmup if it has decent compression and a good battery
Huey52 09-19-2009, 07:38 AM But it appears she has the "hot start" issue, not the flooding issue.
We know the '8 has a relatively weak igintion system and new 'plugs/coils/cables is a relatively inexpensive baseline assurance measure.
