View Full Version : ClearCorners.com LED bulb shootout! Spinning Sushi 08-10-2009, 05:33 AM http://clearcorners.com/products/006/index01.shtml Read and discuss. :) JinDesu 08-10-2009, 08:03 AM This is a pretty straightforward conclusion. LED lighting is still very expensive for its output, and the optimal use of LED is from ceiling to desk space. LEDs just don't have the output to be used in headlamps, where you need to throw light 15-20 feet in front of you. Even if you save on energy, the sheer output is so lacking that it won't matter. firebirdude 08-10-2009, 09:40 AM Interesting and well done. But who cares about light output for your side markers.... If they illuminate with a white color versus that off-white yellow color AND they last 1000 times longer, mission accomplished in my book. rodjonathan 08-10-2009, 10:36 AM im pretty sure the audi r8 and the ls460h have all led headlights ... i wonder how they accomplished it? just wondering i know if we pop leds into out headlights it wont work out so well but all led headlights would be cool lol The Reverend 08-10-2009, 05:23 PM LED's look better, which will render most of their arguments moot to most people. Alexb 08-10-2009, 05:36 PM No arguement that they look better. But the lifespan is the real issue I think. Until a bulb that has a longer life span than regular incandescent and a good light output, it's not worth it. JinDesu 08-11-2009, 06:16 AM Lifespan is one thing if it's a sidemarker, turn signal, etc. But for a headlamp, it won't do, as the headlamp's job is to illuminate a large area in front of the car. The Audi R8 LED headlamps must be pretty damn high tech/expensive. I'd love to see the stats of it. |
