I noticed this message by Dave Clark that I thought would be interesting to people who have the Bose system and who prefer their audio sound as clean and flat as possible. The message was posted with an "Accessories" title so I'm reposting it in Audio with a new title.

I found that a similar setting puts the Bose at about its best configuration for clarity and realism. I myself use bass -1, treble +2, and fader F2, with no audiopilot, but the general principle is the same. In the recesses of my memory I think this may have been mentioned previously. I apologize if this duplicates another thread.

Also found that - for me at least - the Bose system sounds best with the bass at -3, the treble at +4, and the fade at R3. Sounds rather good with quality recordings. No issue with a lack of treble and presence. While I am a school teacher, I do have another "career" of sorts:

Thanks. As an "audiophile" who never stops playing with my systems at home, I am always intrigued by car audio when I get a new vehicle. While the High End audio industry is big, the car audio side is a giant! Nautrally I want it to approach what I have acheived in my home.
What I find interesting is that so many RX 8 owners go with the added subs - no doubt different musical tastes and hearing preferences. I find the bass adequate for driving and the cleaner and less boom the better - meaning that I drop the bass down a bit. No doubt, as the speakers break-in they will open up a lot more - in home audio, many a speaker (let alone the cables, electronics, etc.) require hundreds of hours to loosen up and settle in - just as the RX 8 does when new. I can only assume it will sound better in a few months.
In playing around with the tweeters, they sound rather good too, but yes they could be aimed a bit more at the driver's position.
This weekend I am going to run a frequency sweep of the car's system as measured from the driver's seat to see what the issues really are, now that should be enlightening.
One has to remeber that the Bose system is just that - a system. I would be careful altering anything or the "balance" can be really screwed up.
For the record, in the High End audio arena, Bose is not considered a player - they are a mass-market entity that in truth has no aspirations for that area anyhow. Bose is at best mid-fi. In terms of acr audio, I am at a disadvantage and can only assume that they "may" be a player of sorts.
