View Full Version : Code P2259
9krpmrx8 06-30-2009, 11:49 AM This code starting coming on and I am thinking its related to my broken VFAD solenoid but just thought I would ask for your input.
P2259 -Secondary Air Injection System Control “A”
Circuit High
Get rid of your VFAD and get an aftermarket intake.

Nah, Waste of money.
Huey52 06-30-2009, 12:10 PM Get rid of your VFAD and retain your stock intake (add an RB intake duct and a K&N flat filter).
That's what I did. :)
Will check my code book this eve if someone else doesn't respond.
9krpmrx8 06-30-2009, 04:26 PM I tried eliminating the VFAD system by capping the nipple behind the TB but I still get the code.
Disconnect the connector that runs to the VFAD. See if that helps.
9krpmrx8 06-30-2009, 04:37 PM Did that, capped the nipple behind the throttle body and disconnected the connector, didn't work. I'm not sure if this code is related to the VFAD or the addition of the mid pipe.
I'm not sure it has anything to do with the mid pipe, the only code I have for my midpipe is for the rear o2 sensor. Maybe your code has something to do with the air pump?
9krpmrx8 06-30-2009, 04:48 PM yeah I hope it doesn't. If i swap the VFAD solenoid and I still get the code then its off to the dealer. I only have 5k left on my extended warranty so.
I did a little investigating on the code itself, and P2257-P2260 are all secondary AIR injection system codes...for the 8 those usually have something to do with the AIR pump. I just read your other post about getting a solenoid...hope it works for you.
9krpmrx8 06-30-2009, 05:00 PM Thanks. So I will do some research on the air pump. Do you think the air pump affects idle after the car is warmed up?
I believe the air pump is only used on start up...don't quote me on that though.
9krpmrx8 07-01-2009, 10:33 AM Okay so I borrowed the VFAD solenoid from Grungepups low mileage 07' MT and its still stalling so obviously breaking my VFAD solenoid has nothing to do with it. So I have capped the nipple behind the TB to take that out of the equation. I also checked the intake for oil and there was none and the TB was a little dirty but not too much. I also cleaned the MAF sensor with MAF cleaner (which I had done a few months ago).
Any ideas?
Brettus 07-01-2009, 10:43 AM well the code in question relates to the air pump which is possibly drawing too much current or something like that . You could try borrowing a mates air pump , clearing the code and then test .
all that said I highly doubt this is related to your idle problem .
Do you have access to a boost vac guage to check your idle vac or a compression tester ?
Grungepup 07-01-2009, 10:46 AM At this point i would just take it back to the dealer... you can hang on to the solenoid if need be
9krpmrx8 07-01-2009, 10:47 AM No I don't have access to those. I guess I should visit the dealer. Do you think they will give me crap about my midpipe?
Grungepup 07-01-2009, 10:51 AM I wouldnt mention it, and see if they notice lol
9krpmrx8 07-01-2009, 10:58 AM Yeah I think its worth a try.
Huey52 07-01-2009, 11:00 AM At least your midpipe takes O2 sensors out of the equation.

9krpmrx8 07-01-2009, 11:06 AM Yeah It runs fine it just dies at idle. I get low flow O2 code every now and then but I'm pretty sure the secondary O2 can't effect idle.
Grungepup 07-01-2009, 11:26 AM does it straight up die.... do you get any blinking CEL's... does it choke then die?
9krpmrx8 07-01-2009, 11:37 AM No it just idles down to like 500rpm and dies, its not sudden. Sometimes it stays running but roughly but when the revs come down quickly it just keeps going down and dies.
nycgps 07-01-2009, 12:10 PM Engine kaboom soon.
Razz1 07-01-2009, 01:16 PM your engine is not going to fall apart.
Cap off the VAD and advise.
9krpmrx8 07-01-2009, 01:28 PM Engine kaboom soon.
But I have no power loss, but we will see. If it is the engine then so much for 10W30 and 3000 mile oil changes. VFAD is capped and at lunch it made no difference.
Jon316G 07-01-2009, 05:34 PM I just looked-up the P2259 code and it appears to be specific to the AIR solenoid itself.
Since you have a spare solenoid (from the VFAD) might want to swap that out next.

What do you mean by the air solenoid?
Jon316G 07-02-2009, 12:56 AM What do you mean by the air solenoid?
Remember in another thread I posted an attachment showing the three solenoids under the upper intake manifold and you didn't seem too excited to go there?
The AIR solenoid is one of those three ;)
Jon316G 07-02-2009, 01:07 AM This should give you an idea where its at.
You can see the blue AIR solenoid (obviously, I have my UIM removed).

9krpmrx8 07-02-2009, 09:58 AM Crap so I would need another air solenoid to test that theory.

Didn't you have a spare VFAD solenoid?
Its the same thing.
9krpmrx8 07-02-2009, 03:07 PM Oh really? It's the same thing? Well I guess I have a project for tomorrow (if the dealer jerks me around).
Jon316G 07-02-2009, 03:14 PM Same thing... different color body.
All the intake solenoids (VFAD, VDI, SSV, AIR) are the same... just a simple electronic valve.
