Hey all, I was just wondering how much everyone is paying a YEAR in insurance for your RX-8. I was thinking it would be cheaper than a typical sports car because of its 4-door classification as well as saying 1.3 L ...(even though we all know its easily like a 2.5 -3. anyways...

I would like to know how much you are paying. (per year Est.)

And your age. Or AGE RANGE...so its not evasion of privacy...Thanks guys and gals.

CM.

It's your age. When I was 22 and I had a RX-7 my insurance was $1700. Once you pass 40 your insurance goes down...one of the few things that works better as you get older :p

I got a pretty good deal on my insurance (Miami, FL - so you can imagine what typical rates are around here).

Get this....I had a 98 Civic, I'm 29 also with a clean record, going through State Farm. I have a multiline discount with them due to owning a home.

Basically my 98 Civic (which was overinsured I never bothered to change it) was running me about $140 a month. This was with a 250 deductible and some stupid stuff like towing service that I never needed. My liability coverage was way low (like 15/20 or something). Otherwise I had full coverage.

The GT / MT RX-8 rate, moving my deductible up to 500 but ALSO increasing my liability to 25/50 and dropping the towing wound up being $153. When I turn 30 in 2 months the rate drops to about $135, and in July I get a 10% discount with State Farm for being accident free for 3 years. So I guess that brings me down to right about $120 a month, $500 deductible, full comp/collision, and 25/50 liability.

I estimate that, without the changes I made (some of which lowered and some of which raised my premium) I think it would have been about $20+ a month or so more going from a 98 Civic to a 2004 RX-8.

$1,440 a year for full coverage in Miami is pretty awesome for a car like this.

Ouch.

Check State Farm and Allstate...I know those GEICO/Progressive type companies promise low rates but in my case I have not found that to be true. The big boys sometimes treat you better and have more attractive discount and even refund programs for people who stick with them for the long haul.

Insurance rates are dependent on SO MANY different factors, the least of which is probably the number of doors on the car.

The most important factors are your age, your gender, and your driving record, followed closely by your marital status, where you live, and the make/model of your car (i.e. is your car statistically one of the most stolen models).

Oh, and my rate with Liberty Mutual is $1089/yr for TWO vehicles (my RX-8 and my Nissan Frontier pickup); $500 deductibles on both. I'm 36, unmarried, with a clean driving record and I live in southwest VA.

RX-8 is $624.00/year with maximum Coverage - 40yo - 500 deduct.

Also insuring a 2000 Trooper LTD at full coverage and a '87 RX-7 Turbo II (liability only). Total for all is $1,376 per year.

Had Nationwide for over 15 years, but they pissed me off when they raised our rates because of one stop sign violation (and the previous ticket my wife or I had was over 10 years ago).

A shame they're willing to lose a customer over a single ticket, but now I'm glad it happened - it's saving me a bundle.

Two cars, $850 /yr 33 (me), 32 (wife), $250 deductible. Pays to married and military - thanks USAA! :)

Regardless, for a company that doesn't have a defined client base, the $862 a year is pretty darn good...
