Starting off with the basics...got a Racing Beat cat-back exhaust being shipped as we speak. Im goin with the Racing Beat CAI as well...i like that factory look it has when its installed. After that...we'll see =)

the 2nd day i had my car i went to rotary performance in Garland which is a 10 minute drive from where i bought my car (mesquite) and got their race mid-pipe. just put Eibach pro-kit on the car last night, have Hotchkis front and rear sways with AWR adjustable endlinks on the way, and axial flow shifter sitting at my shop that i'm putting in tomorrow...and i've been trying to get the Exoticspeed R1-T cat-back ordered since the day i bought my car but i can't seem to get the order to go through for whatever reason :(

Mysticalsnake
05-15-2009, 06:44 AM
welp, I couldn't sleep so i went out to the shop tonight to put the shifter in the car and found out that apparently they have changed in 09. I knew the reverse lock out had changed from the "right and down" to the "left and up" (which was the first thing i really noticed about the car whenever i got in it as i had an 04 VR back in 04).

I hoped the shifter would be the same, but I apparently am sadly mistaken. I'm going to try to contact Axial flow and see if i can send them my stock shifter and allow them to make the shifter for the new 2009+ RX-8's.

I love the redesign, but its so un mod friendly.

Anywayz, Its a Miata trans. Check on what short shifters NC owners use... might work.

gah...taking a look at these photos makes me realize how high they sit from the factory (or how slammed my car is now) lol

with the JIC flt-tar coilovers i have, literally, just enough space that i don't ever rub with 245/35-19 nitto nt-05's all the way around. I can't even fit one finger in the gap without going at a bit of an angle.

If only Mazda had put rear right and left spoilers on the rear bumper, the shape of this R3 would have been perfect.

welp, i hacked my own photobucket (it had been so long since i had used it i couldn't even remember my login name lol) and have some photos of the car as it sits today. it went from stock to what you see in this photos in just about 2-3 months. bought the car and immediately put on a rotary performance resonated midpipe, got jic flt-tar coilovers, hotchkis sway bars, AWR adjustable endlinks in june, july the car was at mazda with a busted shift fork, and in august carbon fiber hood, trunk, interior pieces, JIC 4-pt. strutbar, simota carbon fiber intake, and exoticspeed R1-T cat-back:

and this is from Turkey Drag 2009, a 2-day show centered around mini-trucks and bagged trucks but one of 5 cars that still made top 150 of the show. She's been to 5 shows and has 6 trophies or plaques to show so it's done quite well lol

Car is sweet, i love it specially the carbon hood with the blue color :D !!!

But that Simota intake is bad choice if cold air not well driven to it, i would prefer the Racing Beat Revi + Air Duct or the Mazdaspeed/AEM intake much more effective in terms of performance with great "cooling". (sorry for explanation i'm french).

That's because it's a 2010. The 2010's don't have the Mazda badge on the back. If it's a 2009, that's weird.

Again, great pics, great car.

Thanks for the compliments!

As with any other intake on the RX-8's i seriously doubt there's more than 1-3 rwhp gain at the most. Honestly, it gives a really nice sound and deepens the engine tone a bit. the only real way to get any "reasonable" (and i say "reasonable" because well, on these cars we'll spend $500 to get 3-4 rwhp lol) would be a fully boxed in intake with the REVi air duct as another member posted about my intake.

The big reason for the intake I have is that i do realize the intakes are minimal if any real gains and the CF intake pulls the hood, trunk, and spoiler CF into the engine bay a bit and just kinda ties it all together to me.

Anyone painted their calipers yellow? I think it would really set off the rich blue color on our AB's. It would have to be the right tone, something like a Ferrari yellow. Ive seen red calipers on the AB and it looked decent, I think yellow might look better though.

Yellow would be really bold. IMO a bit too much and somewhat tacky. Especially for stock brakes. However if it was a big brake kit...well...

Wish I could tell you where you might find one painted, but mine is done in carbon fiber just like the hood and trunk. That picture you quoted was actually taken with my buddy's point and shoot coming back from a car show. I wish he knew how to use my camera because you would definitely be able to see the difference. The last 2 or 3 pictures are from my DSLR and they have absolutely ZERO photoshopping done. Here's a couple better shots of it:
