View Full Version : Pics of RX-8s with 17" wheels?
Chibana 04-30-2009, 01:14 PM I know I've seen some photos of RX-8s with 17" wheels in various threads, but trying to search for them doesn't seem to be working very well. I'm really liking the Buddy Club forged QF wheels, but they only go up to 17". Anyone have photos of their RX-8 with 17" wheels on it? I think the Gun Metallic QF wheels would look very good on my Sparkling Black Mica RX-8, and I want light wheels (these babies fit that bill at 14.5 lbs.), but I'm concerned about going down a size.
pdxhak 04-30-2009, 01:40 PM Lots of 17" wheels on the forum. Did you search for 17"? Anyway lots of 17" in this thread. Probably will all be the same wheel but different sizes, offsets and tires sizes.

RawrX8 04-30-2009, 02:11 PM Trying to save 2-3 lbs going down to a 17 on a full stock daily driver (not a gutted race car) is like :jerkit: when you could be :ky:
Your better off running some laps and losing that gut.
That just my IMO. Anything under a 18 looks to small.

delhi 04-30-2009, 02:46 PM I have 17" Mazda6 stock rims for winter duties. Works great. The car actually sat a bit lower noticeably. Now that it is back on 18s", I feel the car is like a jacked up truck. hahahaha....
Ross_Dawg 04-30-2009, 02:47 PM I want to get some super light 17's for the track only. I agree with the above that anything less than 18 looks no bueno on a DD.
nuke0907 04-30-2009, 04:19 PM just get light weight wide 18's like i did. 18x10.5" 20lbs FTW.
Razz1 04-30-2009, 04:22 PM Thats too big. That 8 doesn't have enough power for those wheels.
Don't go 17" if you lower it.
Car will scrape over every ittle hump and dip.

pdxhak 04-30-2009, 04:47 PM meh my 19s weigh 20lbs. Wheel strength is more important wheel weight.

17"x9" +45 RPF1's (they're 15.9lbs) on Dunlop Star Spec Z1's 245/45/17's.
RawrX8 04-30-2009, 06:29 PM How much do those tires weigh
My statement stands. :lol2: Fun to poke fun at Nick too.

Maybe if your running a 35 series tire, than Yes. Your running a tire with the same wheel height of stock or slightly smaller it wont make a difference.
Come on Razz use that head! :slap: :p:
Anijo 04-30-2009, 06:36 PM I did the math in some other thread, I've been drinking all afternoon (yah that's right, at work, for free, while still getting paid) but it worked out to 6lbs/wheel less than you, 2.7lbs/wheel over Chris on his reasonably sized tires.
http://www.rims-n-tires.com/rt_specs.jsp?postId=906 Here's that visual tire size calculator I was talking about the other day, btw.
My wheels vs. Rawrx8's: Here (http://www.rims-n-tires.com/rt_specs.jsp?item=Wheel-Tire size comparer&showRim1=1&showTire1=1&sw1=245&ar1=45&bd1=17&rd1=17&rw1=9.0&et1=45&showRim2=1&showTire2=1&sw2=275&ar2=35&bd2=18&rd2=18&rw2=9.5&et2=45&text1=&text2=)

Razz1 04-30-2009, 07:31 PM Huh? Dee Dubb had 18's
Peppy@kacework 04-30-2009, 08:26 PM There is only a pound and a half difference between my 17's and 18's. I don't think the 17's look small.
My 17's weigh 41.9lbs with tires
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v228/sonicyellowrx/Gold3-2.jpg
vs.
My 18's weigh 43.4lbs with tires
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v228/sonicyellowrx/tint6.jpg
and side by side, I have 265's on the 18's now so the diameter difference is only .3in this picture and the picture above was with the 275

Razz1 04-30-2009, 08:38 PM Damn.. those Gold ones look hot!
Thats what I wanted to get for the track.
nuke0907 04-30-2009, 08:42 PM i haven't seen too many gold RPF1's.

Topgear8 copied me ;) I'll make sure Topgear8 and I take some pictures of our cars together at the track this weekend.
nuke0907 04-30-2009, 09:32 PM good combo.
Ross_Dawg 04-30-2009, 09:46 PM you really need c'overs to pull off toppy's look. if you remember his before pics when he had just the rpf1's, no springs or anything, it didnt look nearly the same

Bridgestone Potenza RE-O1R 245/45/17 all 4 corners
Tein S springs
Tokico D specs
-1.7 Front camber, -1.3 Rear Camber
No spacers, no fender modification and no problems

I wish I knew the secret on how to get race slammed.
Chibana 05-01-2009, 02:54 PM Thanks for all of the replies. I really like those 18" black RPF1s. I may still go that route, although I would be nervous about bending them after my experiences with the 18" RPF1s I had on my Mazda3. Then again, the RX-8 won't be driven all over the place as it's not my daily driver, and will rarely be driven in winter.

dondo 05-01-2009, 03:36 PM that doesn't look too bulgy from here..
Chibana 05-01-2009, 03:38 PM RawrX8, what tire width are you running? I think topgear8 was running 275. I was looking to run 255 on mine. I'm also curious to know what drop you guys with these wheels are running, and if you have any rubbing or had to roll fenders. I think that topgear8 said he didn't have any problems or fender rolling with his.
dondo 05-01-2009, 03:43 PM rawr's are 275/35/18 dropped on s techs
