Okay, here's my next picture installment. Got my car today after debadging and went and did a variation of the billet grille.

brothervoodoo,

I think that looks cool. Although I must admit I would consider this option if I was doing the front grill. Just a small variation.

awesome brovoo!

How about a pic from a higher angle. I think that bottom piece may look better straight than curved.

brothervoodoo,

You da man with the vision that pulled this off. I was just making an observation. I think it looks great.

Can you share any details on how you setup the picture. I've never taken a good low light shot of any of my cars. There is a parking lot with this huge blue company sign facing that puts out a blue hue. Thought that might look good if I can squeeze in a sunset/sunrise. But I'd like to know more about the lighting and stuff here. The shot looks awsome.

I think it looks great. But 1 thing to consider... you went to all that trouble and expense to debadge the car... are you SURE you want the "RX 8" emblem on the front? Looks good, but kind of negates all the debadging.

Are there holes behind the "M" badge? Front and rear?

In reality it's much darker than in the pictures. If you extend the exposure, "light" collects and your able to get a good shot so long as nothing is moving. At least that's how it works with a traditional negative, I do my shots with a digital, it works the same way I guess. If you use a flash you won't get the same type of effect.

I didn't debadge to hide the identity, after some consideration I decided the car would look cleaner and more unique without them. I never bothered with previous vehicles but I've been having fun messing around with this car. After looking at Mazdabob's grille treatment I thought the "RX-8" would kick it up a notch. Also, I probably wouldn't do the grille with both the rotary accent and Mazda badge, for me that would look too busy up front.

Very nice ride, Did the shop match the paint very good? When they painted after the debadge process?

Wow, wtf is with all the rice on this board? People, this isn't a Ford F-150, billet grills belong on trucks, not RX-8's. Ugly as hell. Wouldn't you rather be spending money on something that would improve performance? Coilovers maybe?(probably lowering springs in your case). Just being honest.

Where's the rice?

I don't think they called it that back in the 50's, where this type of customization started.

Personally, I've never debadged a car. I do have a 64 Corvette that when purchased used in 1980, had already been debadged by the previous owner. I have considered rebadging her, but never spent the money yet.

VooDoo, the grille treatment with inclusion of the logo is sharp! Not sure if it would look as good on any other color than yours. I for one look forward to seeing what others choose to try to make their fine ride even finer.

You won't be seeing grossly disproportionate wings or the like on my car. And I definitely disagree with lightemup on the rice thing all together. I tend to tread the refined euro look for my car and the grille adds distinction without going over the top. About color choice, check out the billet grille link below in my sig, MazdaBob did this on his green 8 which I saw in person, it looked awesome on his car. That's what made me want to do it to mine.

I've read some of your recent post history and you seem to carry the same tone, you've tried to make your point multiple times already. So far you are 1 in 17 or so that don't like it, okay. Please don't derail this thread with multiple posts saying the same thing, thanks.

I was thinking about this mod on the way to work this morning for my own Titanium car, when it dawned on me... it violates my State's vehicle code (unless I put the front plate over it - which would make a point, but be stupid).

Before people start screaming about how the front-plate laws are bad or that they don't get enforced, realize I'm just pointing it out as something that should be considered before one rushes off to buy the trim. By all means, make up your own mind about the front plates. As for me, I've gotten "warning tickets" when parked at the municipal lot from which I commute when my car was without front plates, so there are people who just don't have the option.

As for being rice... not even close. Certainly a question of taste, but not rice. As I understand the term, rice has to convey that the car has something it doesn't have. Personally, I think Mazda could have charged $400 for it and made money.

Lastly, I think debaging the RX-8 is great fun. I've seen a grand total of two other RX-8s on the road here in Illinois since September. I bet they are not so scarce or unrecognized in car-crazy California, but the "What is that?" or the "There's goes that car again!" factor here would be tremendous.

Wow, the debadge looks TIGHT. I'm sorta torn on the grill though. Looks too "rich" for my taste.. but to each his own eh?

Man you are ONE with your camera.. still using that S40?

I dunno how you do it.. making your shots come out all crisp and pretty like that.. at night even!! What's the secret!!!!

I use a Canon S40 but it's no longer in production, the S45 and S400 are it's relative replacements, goto www.powershot.com for more info. I take pics at 4 megapixal resolution and then shrink to fit afterward.

At the risk of sounding stupid and being flamed for not reading the whole thread, is the grill a PS or did you actaully do that? If so how and at what cost. (Just the grill... not eh debadging)

now that i've had time for the style to sink in, i think it makes it look a lot more luxurious and little less sporty, much like the G35 (still i think what you've done looks even better than the billet grille on the G35):

great effect...i still wish there was something to be done about the plastic mesh underneath

WOW! BrotherVoodoo be proud of your ride man! Very proud. The debadging works well with this car. Darn! Another idea that I didn't come up with! One day when we all meet up, it will be interesting to count the number of (nearly) identical modifications we have all done! Again, great job!

that looks great brothervoodoo but i might have left the rear center mazda logo imo,
as for the front grille i think it looks good without the center line because the rx-8 would make it look odd with two lines in the center
